Hmm, this is where Greg Evansget a bit unpredictable. Is Gunther going to get beat up? Is Rosa going to come in and save him, thus shaming him, if she kicks the bully’s butt? Is Gunther going to somehow protect himself and shame the bully? Wait and see!!! This is one of the reasons this strip is so addictive.

Contemptible coward, typical bully. But maybe Gunther will deal better with this now that he has been confronted with his fears.Leslie had better bugger off before he gets kicked in the nuts by a girl.

Maybe Leslie will say “Eh, you are too dorky to beat up. Now beat it.” While this would sort of be a fizzled-out ending, no one wants to see Gunther get beat up. Or maybe Les will start to hit him, and suddenly we see them surrounded by not just Rosa, but Luann, Bernice, Delta, Knute, even Tiffany and Crystal. Dude gots friends!

Knox is a little perplexed in the 3rd panel….why is he talking instead of cowering? Instead of begging not to hurt him? Or trying to get away from him? Bet that was what he expected from Gunther.

I’d lived in high hopes that the Greaseball would attempt to boot Gunther up the backside and break his foot on the low-hanging arse-pack. All that will actually happen is that he’ll get so disgusted with Gunther’s weenieness that he’ll stalk off tomorrow, leaving Greg Evan’s perfect record of lame endings intact. Of course, since this is only Wednesday, Friday and Saturday will depict Knute and Gunther sitting around discussing the advantages of weenieness, and the Evans Fan Club will be cooking up more plaudits for another plot excellently done.

For some reason I can no longer log in to my old account on GoComics, and I can’t be bothered to go and get it unblocked either. Anywhere else on the web you may encounter me, I am still Bill the Butcher. After all, Bill is my name.

Les has made bodily contact, Class IV Misdemeanor. He has communicated a threat, Class III Misdemeanor. Should he escalate, he would have then committed either a Class II Misdemeanor of Class VI Felony. I don’t care about “bullying”. As a former teacher, I told my students not to worry so much about demerits; worry about me calling 911 and going to jail. Oh yes, threats to teachers (oral, email, gestures, signs) in this commonwealth results in jail and fines.

ok Gunther, he’s close enough. Now bring your left knee up sharply in bully’s groin area. When he grabs his nuts in pain, give him a shot in the head with the backpack. Now that he’s on the ground you might want to finish him off, but don’t do it……although it would be extremely satisfying, you might be charged with manslaughter….

When I was younger, whoever threw first punch, started the fight and was suspended from school. Now, around here, with zero-tolerance, all involved parties are at least suspended from school, and law enforcement is involved if any blood is shed.

I also remember coaches breaking up fights, and making the fighters fight in the gym after school. Coach also opened the vending room so we could buy snacks, and the athletic department kept the profits from concession sale. Bets may have been made.

Part of the reason that this strip is so popular is that Mr. Evans often presents unexpected but sensible outcomes to the dilemmas of his characters. I suspect that this situation will be no different. Wouldn’t it be unexpected (and interesting) if Gunther were to do something that gains Leslie’s respect in a way that doesn’t involve violence or brute force? And wouldn’t it be an unexpected but satisfying twist, if they were to actually become friends, eventually?

Interesting— Gunther does not look at all scare in the third panel. To those who last week said you are tired of Gunther and this arc, I say three weeks is not too much time to see a teen develop from a wallflower wimp to a mature, if quiet, young man.Whatever you do, Gunth (aside from screaming or fainting), you’re going to come out of this stronger. And it’ll get better.

Gunther keeps up his eccentric chatter, Knox becomes more and more confused, and in an unlikely twist [which is, therefore, paradoxically, likely] the two end up having a conversation, become friends, and Gunther helps Leslie get over his bullying issues!

It seems that Knox is more into terrorizing than actually hitting. Probably because hitting will get him suspended or expelled. Also since Gunther is not crying like a baby, he feels a little more terrorizing is needed. Remember, Gunth, the backpack is your best weapon and it worked twice so far.

Not all high schools. Most are just narc cops. They don’t stop fights or whatever. They only watch out for potential drug pushers in pursuit of the bigger fish, the dealers using kids. My son got into several fights and there was no cop in sight. It was other male students who stopped the fight and the noises brought the teachers. Cops are never around for fights or bullies. They don’t care about that. They leave that to the school administration.

    1) Leslie is glad the hall’s empty – not too brave, is he?2) Unhappy that Gunther is NOT terrified – terror is his goal.3) Doesn’t know how to deal with a nonviolent little guy – confused.4) Likely to give up and go away – with a disparaging rmark.
