I had a boss that stacked all his important papers, ID book, passport, driving licence etc in a garbage bag and left them on his desk overnight. The office cleaner assumed they were garbage and chucked the whole lot out. Needless to say, the boss was in a very BAD mood for days and we all crept around like terrified mice.
Like they were going to fit this year, anyway. Don’t have that problem at work. The cleaners won’t touch anything not labeled “BASURA.” (I think that says something for the state of our workspaces, that we have to label the trash.)
Why is everyone giving Ellie a hard time? It’s John’s fault for not looking in the bag. It’s not like he pulled the bag out of the garbage can. He found it lying around the house. It was foolish of him to assume Ellie would leave a bag of trash around, and it must not have smelled like garbage. Who doesn’t realize trash bags are multipurpose items?
This is a cartoon strip—one that effectively captures typical moments in marriage and child rearing and makes them funny. People who don’t like the strip might as well go elsewhere. For what it’s worth—I have used trash bags to store clothes in and it’s pretty effective as long as the other people in the house take notice of the contents before assuming it’s trash. Poor John—my husband once threw out the branches to a Christmas tree because he didn’t think to ask why the bag was sitting by the door (along with the boxes containing the ornaments) and I hadn’t yet marked it. I wasn’t happy either. Life happens. It might as well make someone laugh.
While I do feel for him, it sounds like something my dad would do. Waaay back when I still lived at home, he had annoyingly thrown out a number of my things without asking (one was a nice waste bin I had accidentally left next to the trash can, I came to retrieve the next day and it was gone. Grrr).Elly’s revenge would be to make him take the kids out clothes shopping ;b
Elly has to go check the trash dump now. Or she could just take a trip to the nearby department store (did Canada have Wal-Marts then?). She can buy the kids all new clothes.
Why does Elly always seem like she’s in a constant state of P.M.S.?!? She needs to take a chill-pill today. It was a simple accident. John didn’t mean to throw the clothes away and given this reaction, he sure wouldn’t have done it on purpose for anything in the world! Guaranteed, last summer’s clothes wouldn’t have fit this summer anyhow. She should just chock this one up to experience . . . then tell John to fork over his credit card because the kids now need a whole new summer wardrobe!
Give it a rest, beeyatch. It’s not like they clothes from last summer would still fit the next summer, especially in Canada (unlike here, where summer seems to last from April until October).
I think she’s as mad at herself and the situation as much as she is at John. Her question to him isn’t necessarly blame, but more of a ‘what the heck happened’ kind of thing. And not an unreasonable question, really.

She’s a moody thing, isn’t she?

After yesterday’s strip, I didn’t think John could be blamed. I should have guessed that Elly would find a way.

I really must get up earlier. All the points I was going to make have already been made. Ho hum.

Elly doesn’t need to find a way to blame John, she just does it – as I intimated yesterday. And yes, she’s a moody thing.

Oh no, I just check the bag of clothes in the back of the closet and I found out it was the trash I was supposed to have thrown out.

Why didn’t she put it in a different place? She better get a paying job so she can buy the kids new summer clothes.

Aren’t they just the old clothes that the kids have grown out of? It’s not like Lizzie is going to wear Michael’s old clothes anyway. No worries.
tripwire45 almost 13 years ago
Those clothes aren’t the only thing that went out with the garbage.

I’ve come to hate this strip because of story lines like these. It’s not funny – it’s just stupid.

now John will gripe about how much she spends on clothes for the kids this summer…

There is a FEEL to a bag full of clothes btw, I don’t know how he could have thrown it out thinking it is just trash.

To cut clutter, when you do throw stuff out, itemize where the stuff came from in the first place. (Maybe that explains why I don’t go to WM any more)
