The real question is – why is she about to smash the headstone? Is she one of Mysta’s relatives (her baby sister?), angry about her death? And if she is, what kind of threat does she pose to Tracy and his family? There’s more to this story than just an electrically charged alien hottie.

I should think that in Chicago in late September, with the wind off of the Lake, and dressed like that, that that young woman, whomever she may be, could use a large mug of hot cocoa.

I’m curious about something. If this obviously fine lady has come to destroy Mysta’s gravestone, why the hammer? Why not use her laser powers to melt the name off the stone, or even turn the whole thing to powder? And come to think of it, why don’t we see sparks flying out of her horns like we have every other time we’ve seen her? On the other hand, just the thought of her wielding a sledgehammer is downright exciting. So don’t take my curiosity as a complaint. The truth is I can’t wait to see her in action tomorrow!

I still think this is not the “real,” that is, the original Moon Maid. But whether she is or is not, whoever she is, it is just not right for her to smash the headstone that Junior had erected to mark the grave he has long believed holds his first wife’s remains. This is not congruent with her being a vigilante fighting for the Good. —Which may be a hint as to her identity (or, “non-identity”).

Are we sure that she isn’t carrying a superscientific lunar device that can somehow restore the dead to life, and just hapens to look like a sledgehammer? Because when people enter a graveyard at night with a honking huge mallet, they’ve almost always got a honking huge stake with them and raising the dead is the last thing on their disturbed, creepy minds.

Here’s another theory: Maybe she IS an imposter, and smashing the grave marker is part of a plot to fake Moon Maid coming back to life. The media will put the “sightings” of her together with the smashed grave stone, and let speculation run rampant, which will suit the purposes of this plotter somehow? Just a wild guess when I first saw today’s strip.

Thus far, we have seen her come to the aid of two victims of crime. These were righteous deeds. Under what circumstances would it be righteous to destroy a tombstone? Well, if the marker had your name on it and you were still alive…

Okay, trying to keep the emotions at least a little under control, which I have to tell you is getting harder and harder to do whenever this woman shows up. But as much as I love the hammer, I really am wondering why no sparks are coming out of her horns? Is that supposed to be a clue?

If this aint’ Moon Maid this is some F’dup stuff destroying a tombstone.

I re- read some of the early strips when she was discovered and she had a very hard time with earth temperatures. Maybe the face mask has something to do with that.

OK, I have to ask: Do dead people have a hard time staying dead around here? How come I haven’t noticed, since I live in the area? Seems that dead people who don’t stay dead would get noticed.

Maybe I’m being picky about the art. But, I’ve never seen a sledge hammer with a perfectly square head. I think it might be something else. /// Also, the colorists goofed up again. If you look closely, they colored her horns steel grey.

Looking at Moon Maid, here, with her determined expression [and her hammer in hand], it seems to me that if she is the real Moon Maid, then she’s got a perfect right to smash up her own tombstone. She was always one of my favorite characters [aw, heck, shewas my favorite Dick Tracy character. Now if she is the real one, that needs an explanation. Don’t know how advanced the Moon People were, but is it possible they could have developed some kind of Time-Travel capability? Something capable of snatching her out of the car a split second before detonation? Far-fetched, I know, but so what?So Moon Maid is walking around, perhaps not even aware that she’s supposed to be dead. Now she’s discovered the tombstone and takes issue with its statement [that she’s dead].Pure speculation on my part [or what else’s a comment forum for?]

There’s a big reason why this female character gets fans like me so worked up. We grew up with Moon Maid, and seeing her year after year with that cute smile and alien charms and magnetic power, and wearing that awesome onepiece and those rockin’ boots, it would have been hard not to grow fond of her. They killed her off, of course, and we thought we would never see her again. But now after all these years a mysterious body double has shown up, wearing the same clothes and rocking out the house with laser powers and a sledgehammer — and suddenly all the feelings we had for Moon Maid that lied dormant for so many years have reignited. We’re now left swimming in a sea of dizzy excitement from seeing her again. It’s an emotional haymaker! All the pleasure Moon Maid gave us years ago has come back on us with a rush. I see it in the comments. I see it in the avatars! A frenzied, passionate ecstasy over this fantasy dame we loved so much when we were young. And we never want it to end.

With all the emotions running in here its hard to make sense of this, I never saw the original DT we didn’t have the paper delivered as far out in the country as I grew up, so don’t have any reactions to MM beyond “Woah! Like the look and Huh?” However, analyzing today’s strip from a woman’s point of view I’d say 3 things:

    1. Jr is remarried. 2. Honeymoon is her daughter who she’s not had the joy of seeing grow up.3. Under those circumstances I’d be swinging that sledge hammer too. Though I most certainly don’t have her figure :) I rather think I’d be mad enough to use a sledge rather than just melt it down or some such. There’s something quite satisfying about making something go CRUNCH.
