Uh… for the record, Sam’s School for Supervillains is only a joke, a device to introduce commentary and (hopefully) a laugh. (Just like Famous Costumed Crimefighters School and the Academy for Comic Sidekicks in past installments of “Annie.”) No such places exist except in my own head… such as it is. I wasn’t trying to spam anyone.

im sorry but, I cant POSSIBLY be the only one who thinks the whole “kandi/vitamin thing” is more than just a little creepy. reminds me of a story on the news this morning about an old man who won the lottery and bought beachfront property.. he then went on a dating site and hooked up with a 24 year old stripper.. and he married her! As she was going thru his photo albums, she found a picture of her “new husband” with… HER FATHER!!!

This turn of events reminds me of one’s gradual erosion of freedoms. Sad.

With a 500 character limit, that will make it difficult to comment and cite the commenter you are replying to. It was hard enough to keep track of who was answering who without threaded comments.

GoComics had no problem banning SDM or others for small indiscretions. Why not just ban someone who spams?

@AnyfacePictures were posted here using links to the source. They were not stored on the GoComics server. I have already complained to GoComics about this change which will eliminate Pequod’s poems and Willy007’s retrospectives of Moon Maid.

I am angry about this change but if I were a Pro member and had paid GoComics, I would be hopping mad at these restrictions. I certainly would stop paying for the privilege of non-posting.

Dick Tracy gets approximately 3x more comments than any other strip on the site. GoComics apparently does not care what we think about their restrictions. Way to appeal to your posters GoComics! I have already complained to the unhearing, unnamed moderators.

Just spoke to Gweedo. He’s not really sure what got him kicked off. He’s already sent the powers that be an email asking why. Hasn’t heard back from them yet. He also said that I’m the greatest person in the world! Ahh shucks! LOL!

Received email from GoComics on my complaint. Too many characters to repost but gist is:

A. Comments are now limited to 500 characters

B. Captcha has been added to comment “Submit” process to reduce fake posts from bots

C. Images are no longer allowed in the body of comments

D. Comment art is now restricted to the use of bold and italic font characters

We understand that for some of our users whom have been respectful of our previously policies, that these changes may be disappointing. However, all these changes have been made in the hopes of creating a more streamlined, positive, and protected user experience for everyone that visits our sites.

No images allowed on a site whose product is images—how hypocritical. Makes it impossible to reference past strips. Complain heavily about these changes!

Probably a cost cutting measure. By limiting characters, forbidding images, etc. and going with Capcha they no longer need to have a human moderate anything. The moderators probably received pink slips.

And can someone PLEASE get my paragraph breaks back …?!

I have some good news to report. It looks like all of Gweedo’s past posts have been restored. So maybe they’ve let him back in?

That said, if GoComics keeps moving the bar as to what constitutes ‘acceptable’ behavior …

Someone more organized than myself really should write up our more legitimate issues in the form of an open letter/petition – The lack of paragraph breaks and tweet-length post limits in particular are galling … not that I’m always posting essays.

Are the commentators on any of the other GoComics boards commensurately irked?

I have read on other pages that several are not renewing Pro and one person checking her stock portfolio to eliminate Universal UClick.

Complaining about the ‘status quo’ – Rightly or Wrongly – has been an American pastime for well over 200 years. Sometimes, the complainers are just stuck in the past. Other times, they’ve legitimate grievances. Occasionally, they’re talking just to hear the sound of their own voice. But when privileges are revoked from the many to punish the few …? Can’t say I’m a fan of that. At all.

Our poet laureates will now be limited to limericks.

The sad truth is that 90% of us will probably tire of complaining about it after awhile and accept the new status quo – Not every actor let go by a soap opera inspires a letter writing campaign advocating their return, y’know.

… but I’m enjoying the passion while it lasts.

The timing is particularly ironic, as it coincides with the advent in the strip of a character called “Selfie,” whose schtick is that he posts images.

A wise policy need not limit characters and end line breaks, nor ban all pictures. Panels from older Dick Tracy strips can give newer readers a better understanding of characters and context. The recent Notta story is a good example of this. Willy007 posted excellent panels from the 60s, which helped flesh out Notta’s past. I posted panels to show her naïve trust in her brother. The embrace between the siblings that Gould drew back in the 60s echoed the moving close of Team Tracy’s story

My “Little Housemother” story was deleted. I was pleased with it and it struck a chord with some in our community. My “Mission Moon” and “Ace Tower Aftermath” stories are also suddenly gone a year after they were posted. I may post poems on the facebook fan site, but here at gocomics it is the end of an era. Cheers to all Tracy fans.

The 500 character limit and absence of line breaks ends what has been a fun four years posting poems and a few stories at gocomics. Thanks to those who were so very kind. A final bow. My quill has run dry. Look to see my poems no more.

Maybe the expert programmers at GoComics Central can modify their draconian, punitive measures to accommodate fans who comment. If not, there will be a sharp drop-off in readership here. DT and most other comics appear elsewhere, too….

What a mess my comments have become! Not much incentive to post anything!

The really sad thing is if the executive committee put out a post saying they realize now that they made a mistake and will put things back as they were most of us would not only forgive them we’d have a greater sense of respect for them. It’ll. never happen. Something called pride.v

I guess I don’t understand what GoComics defines as “Spam” – but I can’t recall seeing any spam here at DT. Some of you post some stuff that doesn’t interest me, but I just skim over those, as I’m sure some of you may skim over some of my posts. Where was the problem?

Something fun that we’re missing because of all this nonsense – Comic strips in general this week seem to be featuring crossover characters. Specifically, the saleslady from Cathy showed up in Luanne and Nancy has had two so far, and Hi from Hi and Lois made himself a “Dagwood” sandwich. Comic fans – keep your eyes open for more!

I just sent a long e-mail to the moderaror@gocomics.com telling him (?) how many of us feel about their decision. I told them to read every comment on this and the “Luann” board to see how they’ve shot themselves in the foot.

Actually, I should say that I advised them to read those comments. I hope they heed the advice.

I’m still advocating some sort of organized petition.

The new posting rules are short sighted and foolish. Gocomics seems intent on destroying the comments section, a key feature of what has made them a great and entertaining web service. It’s hard to believe it’s going up in smoke, all in one day. It’s also hard to feel sorry for them because all of it is self-inflicted.

We’re closing in on 200 Posts today.

In regards to the story, Coffee’s either dead, or in a coma, or this will be a very short story. I suspect coma is most likely, and that his dog is co-owned by Chekhov.
