You can’t deny the quality of the art and I think the story will do well too despite the always inevitable “pickers” work which I think will be much gentler than in “Mini Miseries” of the past.
Mike continues to disappoint, in his own stories, but he picked some winners this time. :-)
We are left in suspense on how this version of Tracy will look. I agree the “Calling Dick Tracy” is artificial — unless the city only has one officer does it matter what detective is sent out on a call? I do find the use of closeups and framing visually interesting.
Loving the art this week. Noir and cartoon-y, with nods to Gould and the Beatty film. I’m hoping for some big uppercuts from Tracy later in the mystery.
I’m liking the pacing so far, and the “mood” as well….not sure if it’s the dead of night (no pun intended) or daylight savings has set in and it gets dark early in tracyville. What I DO like, however, is that the city itself is playing a part in this story what with the overhead train trestle in yesterday’s offering and the skyscrapers in today’s…very “artistic”…so far so good
Who else noticed how the round yellow moon in Panel 1 was alluded to in Panel 3 with the big round circle and Tracy’s yellow hat? No one? Well – I guess I HAVE trained myself to notice important details and symbolism and stuff that looks like ladies private parts even if it’s not meant that way… (self important expression on face and dismissive sniff here).
I’m pretty sure this is referencing the early 60s cartoon except that instead of Tracy sending Joe Jitsu or Hemlock Holmes & The Retouchables to answer the call, he’s going himself.

Good morning™, everyone!
“The Scar Brothers” — sounds like bad news just by the name.
Did the “Calling Dick Tracy! Calling Dick Tracy!” ever happen in the strip before that cartoon series? I can’t remember ever seeing it in old strips.

Guess the “Dick Tracy Signal” isn’t working tonite. They shine a silhouette of a hat into the sky.

nope, today’s installment isn’t doin’ it for me, especially today’s art… the sleeve looks really bad and pudgy hands seems to be Howie’s thing…

Time seems to be scewed here. A cellphone with a camera on yesterdays, and now a 2 way /wrist radio?/

Love the 2-way wrist radio arrow, just like the old days!

The Scarborough Law partners are known as the ‘Scar Brothers’? Makes them sound more like defendants than attorneys….

For the curious,DICK TRACY TOMMY GUNS AND HARD TIMES has all the “unrelated” comic relief Sunday strips before they merged in mid-1932.

Even the “electrical static” zig-zags coming from Tracy’s radio are drawn the way Gould used to draw them! Nice.
