Reminds me of this really good chick-lit novel I read once. When the man and the woman got together at the end, after breaking up earlier in the novel, the man said that he’d been feeling so insecure about himself about the breakup. And the woman was surprised, and said that she didn’t know men got insecure like that, too. She’d assumed it was a woman thing.
That’s what she thinks. I was at a convention this weekend, in which a copious amount of the vendors and exhibitors were seniors and/or in later middle age. And the main topic of discussion was not the product line, but the aches, pains and latest surgeries.
Our age shows in hidden ways:- I take 5 pills and an inhaler every day, the silver highlights are the majority and if I wake up without aches and pains I´m still dreaming. The only outward signs (I think) are a neck that reminds me of thanksgiving, a paunch that isn´t beer anymore and a tendency to say “Dang kids” FAR too often!
I do almost everything John might do in the mirror except tie a necktie and examine the top of my head. The former is a joy, the latter is a nightmare!
Just stay busy working out and eating right so as to keep everything in perfect functioning order to the maximum controllable extent possible. Then you won’t have time left over to waste worrying about things over which you DON’T have control. Matthew 6:27-34.

As my sainted mother used to say, getting old beats the alternative.

It’s because this country over emphasizes youth in women, not men. Why else are there cosmetics, plastic surgery, and other “beauty” items?

Given the nature of the way modern women consider men, Elly’s statement is no longer true. Now the ladies follow the 6-6-6 rule.

I thought it was spelled (spelt?) “ageing” so I looked it up…
“In Canada and the U.S. , the preferred spelling is aging. British usage favours the variant ageing, which is also accepted in Canada.”
also… “In US English, “spelled” is standard. In UK English, both “spelled” and “spelt” are acceptable.”

Oh, we do think about aging. We just don’t obsess over it.

Leave it to a dentist in panel two to brush toothpaste onto his neck!
Or is he trying to starch his shirt collar?

Au contraire madam. We obsess about it, but we just buy new toys instead of trying to fix ourselves.

Don’t complain when he upgrades to a convertible sports car and has an affair with his younger nurse… you asked for signs.

I’m proud of my gray hair, I earned most of them the hard way. Some of the people I used to hang with are here anymore. The Dude abides. . .

No complaints about aging with the exception of the balding/thinning hair on the head and all the hair growing where it never grew before…..

In our minds, we are still in our twenties, up until we reach the point where we can no longer deny we’re becoming infirm.
