Planes at that time should still had decent entertainment choices. First time flying for me was when I was ten on a tfn hours l trip. Only had music and two movies I had no say in projected on a wall (California Split and McQ).
There is a nice Canadian Railroad passenger train that goes through the Canadian Plains and Rocky Mts. And besides the view, you can get up and walk around. For asking kids to sit still for three or four hours on a plane is a bit much.
When I looked at the seating in today’s strip I thought “Wow, they have a lot of leg room for their flight!” And then remembered back when a decent amount of leg room was not something you had to pay extra for when flying. I truly loathe the airline seats we are crammed into these days, and I’m only 5’9" tall and weigh 180 lbs. Those who are any bigger than I am must really be uncomfortable when flying.
A few weeks back was my eight-year-old niece’s first flight: a transcontinental flight at that. I tried to join her and her mother in buying out the row but somehow it got messed up and I was in the row in front instead. She seemed to be keeping herself quietly amused throughout. When we got off the plane, though, she couldn’t stop talking about how boring it was.
WHAT is Gordo talking about?? Drugging your toddlers?!?!? Or did he just psychically feel the need to set up a punchline for John Patterson at 30,000 feet?

Judging from the seating arrangement, it appears that they put Elizabeth in charge of taking care of April.

The Pattersons chose an odd seating configuration for their family. April isolated from both parents?

Why do Elizabeth have to be a selfish crab? I thought kids LOVE visiting their grandparents!

What mother would sit behind her family. Mom and Lizardbreath would have each other seats.

Is the double John ordered what would be called, if reading between the lines, a ‘double entendre’?
Medication to calm nerves on a flight, given a second, double meaning intended for adults in the audience to understand.

Why isn’t Ellie sitting with the girls instead of John? I think she can better control April and help Liz cope with the situation.

Something tells me that three hour flight might end up on April’s Island!!!
Sorry for the comparison Gilligan’s Island!

Poor Liz! Stuck in the middle seat, trapped by dad and her annoying little sister. All she wants is to be home with her friends.

They banned smoking on airplanes a long time ago – for good reason. They should next ban alcohol on flights – for good reasons.

I’m waiting for the airline that doesn’t allow kids or self entitled people on their flights.

“medication” on an airplane is just simply booze.

LOL… Legal and Over The Counter ‘medication’…
mistercatworks about 1 month ago
This is why people get rowdy on planes. It’s easy to overshoot the proper dosage and when you add slightly reduced air pressure, all bets are off.
