In all the years I have been reading this I can’t even remember seeing Elly with a different hair style or even wearing makeup? (I do remember though when Michael changed his looks by growing a full beard.)

Panel three…isn’t that a Bruce Springsteen song?“Wanna change my hair, my clothes, my face!”

Elizabeth: Beside, I’m not depressed. I don’t like people telling me what to do and making decisions for me!

Look at Ellie’s eyes in the rear view mirror.

Elly uses her ‘lean against me tree’ to cure her of any depression or problems. Maybe Lis needs to find something like that to help her out of her depression.

Imagine being a red panda. We all look just the same. I tried to grow a mustache. No one noticed. When I got some Birkenstocks, they wouldn’t stop laughing. And the M C Hammer pants? Don’t ask. Sigh.

Liz’s way of telling Elly that she never changes… Kind of a back handed compliment.

If what Liz says is true, I don’t think she realizes how very fortunate her mom is! There’s nothing better than looking in the mirror and liking the person who you see with a pleasant smile on their face!

I generally find that periods of depression are the worst times to make a change. They’re the times when I undervalue the good things in my life and am in danger of losing sight of the core values of who I am, and of the goals that flow from that. If at all possible, better to stick to decisions that were made when I was in a better place and able to think more clearly.

Elly is good at swiping John’s credit card.

Elizabeth likely saw that her mother uses spending as a crutch and is well on her way to becoming a shopaholic.

Depression is a very serious illness that can’t be fixed by happy thoughts, “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps,” or pep talks. This strip trivializes a potentially dangerous condition, especially for teens. If Mom loves her daughter she’ll get her professional help asap. Before she attempts self harm.

I don’t know why some commenters like to putting Elly down all the time. I would have loved having a mom who at least tried to make me feel better about my life.
