Sorry Son, life does not quite work that way. Items that are structurally part of a house when it gets sold can still cause issues “I didn’t even get (said item) after (property owner) died!” Explaining that said item was built into the walls does not always cure the underlying problems. So just because something has not be used or even seen for the past 15 years does not mean that it will not be missed, if you toss it into a dumpster or otherwise dispose of various items.

Theories are a dime a dozen. Good  theories, though, are judged after some time has passed.

I love this arc where the supposedly antagonistic duo are so in sync. Mrs Olsen is a wonderful teacher.

So Caulfield would throw out the antiques?

“Mom’s Hummel figurines and Dad’s Golden Age comics! They don’t use those!”

I get the feeling that the thing that Caufield really dreads the arguments over what should be tossed.

taking 4th yr spanish in HS as a senior (which I hated), I spent winter break doing all the assignments and chapters for the year so I coast for the remainder of the year. My teacher hated it; when she screamed You arent paying attention!! Where’s the Assignment, followed by me pulling out the assignment

Others have noted the difference between a “theory” (what Mrs. Olson claims Caulfield has) and a “hypothesis” (which is what he actually has). I figured a good case in point might help underline the distinction:

“The theory of evolution explains how life on Earth has changed. In scientific terms, ‘theory’ does not mean ‘guess’ or ‘hunch’ as it does in everyday usage. Scientific theories are explanations of natural phenomena built up logically from testable observations and hypotheses. Biological evolution is the best scientific explanation we have for the enormous range of observations about the living world. … The occurrence of evolution in this sense is a fact. Scientists no longer question whether descent with modification occurred because the evidence supporting the idea is so strong.” —National Academy of Sciences

He’s treating the garage thing same as he does his summer reading list. He gets it done in one burst so he doesn’t have to spend the whole summer doing it. He doesn’t want to spend the day watching his parents waffling over what to toss. Say it, do it, forget it. Not a bad idea but, for some of us whose garages and attics and closets are bulging, almost impossible to achieve.

There is a theory that states if anyone were to find out what the universe is here for and why, that it would be replaced by something even more bizarrely inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened. Paraphrased from Douglas Adams.
