Eric Lipton of the New York Times reported today on the Trump family’s ties to a multibillion-dollar project in Oman. The resort project is backed by the Omani government, which has put up the land for the project and is investing up to a billion dollars to upgrade the infrastructure near the project and to fund the project’s initial phase. It will also take a cut of the profits. A Saudi real estate firm closely allied with the Saudi government brought Trump into the deal. The Trump family will not put any money into the project, but the Omani government has paid the Trump Organization at least $5 million for the use of his name and will pay the Trump Organization to manage a hotel, golf course, and golf club for the next 30 years.
“There is a big wealth concentration in the world, which means that those people will more and more demand more exclusive products and more exclusive projects,” the chief executive of the London-based DarGlobal subsidiary of the Saudi real estate firm said earlier this year. The project is being constructed by migrants paid as little as $340 a month for ten hours a day of grueling work in heat above 100°F, or 38°C.
In fact, Biden worked hard to reestablish the independence of the Justice Department after Trump had used it for personal ends. Trump broke the tradition that FBI directors should serve out their ten-year term—a term chosen to emphasize that the position should not be political—by firing FBI director James Comey when Comey refused to stop the bureau’s investigation of the 2016 Trump campaign’s ties to Russian operatives; Biden tried to reestablish the guardrails around the position when he declined to replace FBI director Christopher Wray, appointed by Trump.
Biden also left in place the U.S. attorney for the District of Delaware—the person overseeing the investigation into Hunter Biden that began in 2018—to make the independence of the investigation clear. That Trump appointee, U.S. Attorney David C. Weiss, is responsible for the deal. Georgetown University policy professor Don Moynihan pointed out that Weiss has been investigating Hunter Biden for five years and “[b]est they could do is tax charges which rarely get this level of attention. If Comer has anything real, the prosecutor would have used it.”
Indeed, rather than going easy on Hunter Biden, there are signs that prosecutors treated him more harshly than is typical for similar crimes. Roger Sollenberger, a senior political writer for the Daily Beast, explained that “Roger Stone and his wife settled a $2 million unpaid taxes civil case with DOJ last year—they weren’t charged criminally, unlike Hunter Biden, so they didn’t even get probation.” Justice reporter for NBC News Ryan Reilly noted that it is very rare for prosecutors to bring the addict in possession of a weapon charge they used against Biden. In the past it has been used to find a charge that will stick or alongside charges concerning violent crime.
lots of vitriol here, name calling and personal attacks. how many of these comments will the mods remove? or will they just remove this comment of mine as they’ve been doing recently because it’s easy just to check my profile and delete. let’s see if the mods apply the rules fairly here or if they continue to selectively pick on individual commenters (me) and allow others, mostly of a right-leaning persuasion, to continue breaking the so-called rules…
Trump bragged for years how he did not pay taxes; Hunter just had bad accountants or got bad advice. Too bad the MAGA-GOP is turning a blind eye to the BILLIONS taken in by the Trump Family Grifters.
Like most people caught for failing to pay taxes (a misdemeanor, by the way), and then pled guilty, paid the liability including penalties and interest, the case against Hunter is on hold with a plea agreement; he could still face prison time. As regards the still active gun charge (lying about drug use on a firearms application) we should acknowledge that of the many applications filed annually thousands of applicants lie on their applications concerning one question or another without punishment. Hunter also faces prison time for this charge, too. We should acknowledge that the gun charge is rarely pursued against a non-violent offender, especially after SCOTUS’s decision last year which “upended the way courts deal with firearm restrictions.”
Looks to me like Hunter is being treated just like anyone else would be by the justice system. So is Trump. Unlike Hunter, who faces 2 charges, Trump is saddled with about 70 felony and lesser charges, both state and federal, and he’s a free man — just like Hunter — except that Trump is still (technically and legally) an innocent man.
Lisa, showing her ignorance of how tax law is generally applied. We don’t send our wealthiest criminals to prison for taxes. We make them say, “l am sorry” and oay a fine. Shall we change this Shall we send ALL wealthy tax violators to prison, Lisa? Or just the ones named Biden?
Honestly, I am all for it, rip roaring to go. Lock THEM up! Lock them ALL up!
But I don’t think that is what your Republican Masters want, Lisa.
Hunter Biden, a private citizen, is pleading guilty to paying his taxes late and lying on the form when he bought a gun. Hunter has paid the taxes and is awaiting a judge to sign off on the plea deal made by a Trump-appointed Justice Dept. lawyer.
Meanwhile, Trump has been charged with over 35 felonies. He has not been fingerprinted, as any other charged person would have. He has not had to surrender his passport, as any other charged person would have. He has not had to post any bond, as any other defendant would have. What Trump has done is attack and call for violence against the Justice Department lawyers on the case.
Those are merely the background facts of this cartoon. The real story is that the GOP House Oversight Chairman James Comer admitted that facts about the Hunter Biden case do not matter. They plan to smear the President anyway. It’s refreshing that Republicans have gotten so used to saying the quiet part out loud and feel absolutely no shame at their hypocrisy.
Well, now, Lisa, owning up to his 2 counts of ill deeds is a whole, whole lot better than denying his 37 counts in one indictment (more pending). Maybe there’s a lesson in this for us all. Once found out, just own up to them and get on with your life.
As legal expert Dan Abrams pointed out on GMA, if it was anyone other than the President’s son, they wouldn’t have brought charges- he was actually treated worse because of who he is.
Wasn’t David Weiss, the lead prosecutor in the Hunter Biden case, who worked the plea deal, appointed by former President Trump ? Apparently he thought it was a fair deal for a private Citizen.

WASHINGTON — Two IRS whistleblowers told Congress in closed-door testimony released Thursday that there was a Justice Department coverup in the tax fraud investigation of first son Hunter Biden.
The two tax agents told the House Ways and Means Committee that they pressed for felony charges against Hunter Biden for ducking $2.2 million in tax payments and charged that evidence implicating the first son was buried by the Justice Department, the panel’s chairman said Thursday.
Rep. Jason Smith (R-Mo.) also told reporters that Delaware US Attorney David Weiss sought to bring charges against the 53-year-old in both the District of Columbia and Southern California last year and was denied both times — contradicting sworn testimony by Attorney General Merrick Garland.
Weiss, who signed off this week on a probation-only plea deal for Hunter in Delaware, sought repeatedly to be appointed special counsel in the case, including as recently as spring 2022, but was turned down by the Biden Justice Department, the lawmaker alleged.
Shapley also revealed that Hunter Biden had cited his father in a July 30, 2017, Whatsapp message to one of his Chinese associates, Henry Zhao — a Communist Party official and director of Harvest Fund Management, which invested in Hunter’s firm BHR Partners.
“I am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled,” Hunter wrote. “Tell the director that I would like to resolve this now before it gets out of hand, and now means tonight. And, Z, if I get a call or text from anyone involved in this other than you, Zhang, or the chairman, I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction. I am sitting here waiting for the call with my father.”
Joe Biden has repeatedly denied speaking with his son about his overseas business interests, despite clear evidence to the contrary.
Smith: Testimony of IRS Employees Reveals Biden IRS, DOJ Interfered in Tax Investigation of Hunter Biden, Revealing Preferential Treatment for Wealthy and Politically Connected JUNE 22, 2023 — BLOG — MARKUP — OVERSIGHT — PRESS RELEASES WASHINGTON, D.C. – A Ways and Means Committee executive meeting resulted in a vote to release to the public whistleblower testimony of two different IRS employees who worked directly on the tax evasion case of Hunter Biden. That testimony outlines misconduct and government abuse at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the investigation of Hunter Biden. The allegations point to a steady campaign of: unequal treatment of enforcing tax law; Department of Justice (DOJ) interference in the form of delays, divulgences, and denials, into the investigation of tax crimes that may have been committed by the President’s son; and finally, retaliation against IRS employees who blew the whistle on the misconduct.
Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (MO-08) released the following statement:
“Today, the Ways and Means Committee voted to make public the testimony of IRS employees blowing the whistle on misconduct at the IRS and the Biden Department of Justice regarding unequal enforcement of tax law, interference and government abuse in the handling of investigations into criminal activity by President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, and retaliation against IRS employees blowing the whistle on this abuse.
“The American people deserve to know that when it comes to criminal enforcement, they are not on the same playing field as the wealthy and politically connected class. The preferential treatment Hunter Biden received would never have been granted to ordinary Americans.
The federal government is not treating all taxpayers the same – and providing preferential treatment to the wealthy and well-connected, including the son of the President of the United States.
Despite the fact that IRS officials recommended that Hunter Biden be charged with criminal activity that includes attempts to evade or defeat taxes, fraud and false statements, and willful failures to file returns, supply information, or pay taxes for over $8.3 million in income, Mr. Biden received preferential treatment in the course of the investigation, and has struck a plea deal that will likely keep him out from behind bars. Meanwhile…
In 2014, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida announced that a man was sentenced to 13 months in prison to be followed by a year of supervised release for failing to file an income tax return, the same misdemeanor tax offense that Hunter Biden was charged with.
The Department of Justice interfered in the investigation into Hunter Biden’s clear tax issues with a “Delay, Divulge, and Deny” campaign – that ultimately shielded him by allowing the statute of limitations to pass on his tax crimes.
DELAY: Recurring unjustified delays pervaded the investigation, including in authenticating the message between Hunter Biden and Chinese officials. Investigators were told by U.S. Attorney Lesley Wolf that “there is no way” a search warrant for evidence would get approved because the evidence of interest would be found in the guest house of former Vice President Biden.
DIVULGE: Investigators found out that attorneys for Hunter Biden were tipped off about actions relating to the investigation in advance. For example, even as investigators had probable cause to search a Northern Virginia storage unit in which Hunter Biden had stored files, attorneys for Biden were tipped off.
DENY: U.S. Attorney of Delaware David Weiss tried to bring charges in District of Columbia around March 2022 and was denied. Weiss sought special counsel status from DOJ in the Spring of 2022 and was denied. Weiss sought to bring charges in the Central District of California in the Fall of 2022 and had that request denied in January 2023.-Committee on Ways and Means
IRS employees worked through the chain of command to blow the whistle on this misconduct – only to be met with hostility and retaliation, leading them to come to the Ways and Means Committee.
Actions were taken to cut the IRS investigative team out of the process after they raised concerns up their chain of command. One whistleblower was not selected for a position, when he was more qualified than the candidate who was selected. Limits and pauses have been placed on other, unrelated investigations that the whistleblowers are working on – which hamper the investigators’ ability to do their work or advance. The whistleblowers and their entire team were removed from the investigation on May 15, 2023, after blowing the whistle to Congress.- Committee on Ways and Means
The two IRS “whistleblowers” were interviewed by the House Ways & Means Committee. That’s distinct from testified, in that they were not placed under oath. The Committee did not bother interviewing any of the 50+ other people involved in investigating Hunter Biden’s tax matter. One of the “whistleblowers” has gone public: Gary Shapley, a Republican. The “whistleblowers” are being funded by a right wing outfit. Their claiming that Trump appointed prosecutors & directors of the IRS impeded the investigation. None of what they said substantiated their claims. It was procedural disagreement.
This is an obvious political hit job by House Republicans & only those inclined to believe any lie that props up their support for Trump is ok, will believe it.
It’s amazing how some “mean” tweets from President Trump stirred a fuss, but a crackhead with a porn addiction can openly leverage his daddy’s influence and political clout as if it’s no big deal.
Western Journal:
What do you have for dinner after you use your father’s influence as your get-out-of-jail-free card?
Well, according to a CBS description, after Hunter Biden got a sweetheart plea deal for his gun and tax crimes, he had a first course of marinated millet and grilled corn kernel salad with compressed watermelon and tangy avocado sauce. For his main course, Hunter had a choice of stuffed portobello mushrooms with a creamy saffron-infused risotto or sumac-roasted sea bass in a lemon-dill yogurt sauce with crisped millet cakes and summer squashes. And to finish off, dessert was a rose and cardamom-infused strawberry shortcake.
That was the menu from last night’s swanky White House dinner for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where Hunter was seen hobnobbing with the who’s who of the political, business and show-biz world, including designer Ralph Lauren, filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan, tennis legend Billie Jean King and leaders from Alphabet and Microsoft.
This was one of those instances when the actions of the Biden boys went too far and was more than their media flunkies could stomach. It was obvious that the normally shameless media was very uncomfortable with the audacity from the “Big Guy” and his crackhead son. Sure, most veils of pretense have been lifted, and the secret’s out, but openly showcasing this so blatantly made the media hacks uncomfortable. Yes, we’re “North Korea,” but do we have to act like it in public? So, in a final effort to maintain the appearance of impartiality, the media cornered Karine Jean-Pierre.

Biden Privilege is on full display while they’re living it up at the White House when they should be rotting away in the Big House.
