Well, Aaron Hill is back…sorta. Luann will probably launch into sharing her flashbacks starring Aaron so we will probably see more of him. At least Aaron was nice looking and had no pouty lips like Axel. When these pouty lips are drawn, they usually depict unpopular personality. Fay, stay away from Axel…if you can ignore your hormones.
She is a great tutor for that then, since she got the experience. Would be able to tell her to acting for herself, not for others and then find out later if that someone is worth it or not.
Fay seems to have her mind (heart?) set on Axel. But then, how many spend the rest of their lives with their high school sweetheart, much less your middle school sweetheart/crush?
I just have the feeling that somehow Aaron Hill may one day show up. Maybe just for a brief visit, but it would be cool to see him again, what he’s been up to and what he looks like. Same goes with Delta.
I think Axel “notices” Fay, and that she’s making an effort to get involved with him. That’s why he sat so far away from her at the camp opening. My guess is that Axel hasn’t had a girlfriend and he’s afraid of not knowing how to handle it. If they can both be herded into the play, they might learn to work together which is a start. Going to Weenie World on a break and maybe other stuff could help. If all this happens, it will probably be Fay that has to figure out when to try the first surprise kiss…
That whole Aaron Hill recurring story line from years ago was a bit annoying. It was a relief when he was written out of the strip (if I recall correctly, he moved out of state). This is one case where history shouldn’t repeat itself.
Well, at least Lu recognizes the issue and her own weakness in that area. Perhaps she can help by relaying her story and warning her not to make the same mistakes.
Here’s a Radical Idea, Fay: Indeed, Make Those “Changes” but Do it FOR YOURSELF, Not Some Punk. You’ll have plenty of time later to Cow-Tow to Ingrate Scumbags, Trust Me.
But, if You Reeeally wanna get Axe-Head’s “Attention,” then Here, take this vintage M-80. Quietly Sneak Up behind Mr. “Pucker-Lips” while He’s Listening to some Crap “Music,” light the M-80, then Run around Some Protective corner or some Large, Rotund Person, before said M-80 EXPLODES. I’ll Bet Axel, and everyone around Him, will JUMP 15 feet in the Air. And You’ll Then, HAVE His Undivided Attention.
Although His “Fruit-of-the-Looms,” will NEED Changing……,
I would think that, at one point or another, we’ve all had the adolescent or young adult experience of either “trying to find ourselves”, or “liking someone who seems to be oblivious to us (at least as far as we thought they were)”, or we were the "oblivious ‘doof’ "….
-
In a sorta similar vein, my wife and I attended the same HS (and knew some of the same people outside of HS), but amazingly somehow never met each other (though, it was a larger than average size student body) until one day a mutual friend introduced us, a few years after…
I hope that Luann uses the experience she had with Aaron to teach Faye that pining after a boy is a waste of time and doing things that aren’t you to get a boy’s attention is degrading. Faye needs to develop some self-confidence and be the person she is. When she’s comfortable with being herself, it won’t matter if she has a boy in her life or not.
Yep, since aging the cast into college (chronologically, but not in terms of behavior) hasn’t really panned out as intended, the strip is moving back to its middle-school / early high-school comfort zone, with Luann: The Next Generation. So let’s return to the strip’s roots and boldly go where, um, we’ve already gone before, so many times!
Has everyone forgotten Quill? She certainly attracted his attention (and Aaron’s too, for that matter.) I guess I’m just enough of a romantic to hope that she does eventually end up with Quill!
Well, nearly everyone mentioned this exact idea ever since Fay proclaimed her interest in Axel. I am glad that Luann recognizes the similarities between her situation and Fay’s, but how will she now respond? Perhaps:
1. Will she recognize how wrong and pointless it is to try to change yourself to attract the attention of another person…. and then try to impart that idea to Fay?
2. Will she say she completely understands Fay’s angst and then go on to help Fay in some hair-brained schemes to make Axel notice Fay?
Not sure which direction Greg will go, but I would probably guess it will be a “mix” of number one and number two…. with the eventual outcome being more like “one”
Disappointing but not surprising that Fay’s main focus is not figuring out what she wants to be in life, or how to overcome her shyness, but rather how to attract a guy who seems unaware that she exists (history repeating itself here, with Luann and Aaron Hill setting that first example.)
*But there is one good thing about the ‘toon showing that Fay’s obsessed with the uninteresting and self-absorbed Axel: we won’t be hearing all the yopping from those insisting that Fay is bisexual, trans-sexual, asexual or will fall in love with Ann Awful…
Unrequited love is rough, especially during the teenage years. The self doubt, the agony of never being good enough to get noticed (too shy), never being as pretty as the gorgeous cheerleaders, etc, etc. It is just awful. At least Fay (who is really cute) has someone to confide in, so, hopefully, Luann will have learned enough in life to be there for her to teach her she will be okay.
Sometimes unrequited love has a happy ending. My crush in 11 grade was dating a trampy girl. She got pregnant and his parents made him marry her. His family was rich, she lived in a trailer park, I doubt the pregnancy was an accident on her part. Now 40 years later he is divorced and I am happily married to a great man.
Here’s the perfect chance for Luann to help Fay. She can say “Don’t make the mistake I made. Live for yourself, not for some boy. If you have enough confidence in yourself, boys will come.”
