I have a times have three alarms: my cell phone (its alarm clock option), a bedside clock on the opposite nightstand, and the third would be my bladder or bowels. Yeah, TMI on that last one.
Tara has informed us that she doesn’t wear underwear, yet today we see that she wears a nightgown in bed. Is this one that she bought from Ann Eiffel at the Fuse?
Well, actually, true morning people wake up at the same time every day without any alarm clock. Assuming they get to bed at about the same time every day.
For a long time I would wake up five minutes before the hour alarm because the radio was on and I was counting the number of times the news came on while I was asleep.
As I have gotten older I can beat the alarm usually, and its my phone, and that sucker is so accurate!!! And nothing personal Bernice, but I for one am GLAD that Tara actually made a Sunday comic. That is a real promotion in Luannverse.
Looking at the two, it would be interesting to find out what time they both went to bed. Of course, throughout the years, we have seen that Luann is usually a wreck in the morning. That even went back to the “gag a day” strips. For some reason, I don’t think Tara cuts evenings short, she’s probably one of those that can get by on 4 hours of sleep a night. Heck, most nights, I only get about 5 1/2 to 6 hours of sleep.
I currently have a music video alarm (set to a peppy song I enjoy) on full volume, right next to my ear. That is followed by my clock radio alarm, then three consecutive chime alarms. Even these don’t wake me, unless I am truly well-rested.
I have a gift… a dark and terrible talent for sleeping through alarms!
To be a real replacement for Bernice in the Sunday strips, though, Tara will have to sit on Luann’s bed for a “messy room” gag. I suppose she will have to work up to that esteemed position, which can’t be trusted to a mere novice character.
Notice that every alarm in Luann’s room has a different time setting on it. Guess that’s what was meant by ‘multimorning’ (yeah, I know, ‘thanks, Captain Obvious’….)
As a former “non-morning person”, it’s actually quite simple and only requires one clock. Use the “get out of bed clock” (it has to be far away so you don’t reflexively turn it off and fall back asleep) and then simply don’t get back in bed. Instead, immediately get started on the morning routine (teeth brushing, face-washing, etc). Of course, this requires a certain degree of self-discipline that Luann has been consistently shown to lack…
Not inspired by today’s Luann comic but rather by http://www.gocomics.com/9chickweedlane/2018/04/15?ct=v&cti=1218345 who is your favourite miniskirt wearer (please don’t say Knute)? Possibles from this strip are Tara Starr, Luann Degroot, Tiffany Farrell, Ann Eiffel, Crystal, Dianne (do they have second names), Delta James, Rosa Aragones or Toni Daytona. There’s the lovely Edda from 9CWL and the Sailor Moon girls. Of course the real pioneer of very little cloth and lots of leg was Betty Boop. Any other candidates?
It changes. In my teens and twenties, I kept my alarm clock on the other side of the room, so that I had to get up to shut it off. Now, I have no alarm clock at all. Haven’t needed one. I just get up.
In my collage days I had a Westclox Big Ben alarm clock. The back half of the clock was essentially one big gong! That bad boy would wake you up! It started with an irregular striking before going full alarm mode.
Wanna be a morning person? Get a job here you have to get up at about four-o’something. After a few years, you won’t be able to stay up during a double-feature at a drive-in theater in the summertime if your life depended on it.
I was never a morning person, unless you count seeing the sun come up, but neither was I a whiny baby about getting up to do what needs to be done. When I was in college, I worked 44 hours a week including 6 AM to 12 Midnite BOTH Sat and Sun! Many times I put my head on the pillow around 2 AM only to get up at 5 to work 18 hours, then come back in 6 to do it again. I learned long ago that moaning and complaining just makes it worse. Get up and face the day! Is what I’m getting at!
Well, at least Tara has made it to the “Sunday Strips…” I dunno what to say about Lu… I wasn’t that way in school. I could pull “all nighters” and not bat an eye. Not these days, though. I’m lucky to get enough sleep and wake up without my “groggy” on… :)
I love Tara. She’s an adventurer & experimenter, with chutzpah. Sure, she’s been in trouble, been kicked out of here and there. So has Steve Jobs. No mud, no lotus …….. ( I’d rather have a cup of coffee & chat with her, than with Luann!)
I’m the sort where if I have an alarm set, I’ll almost always wake up about 10 minutes before it goes off. If I do not set an alarm and just assume I’ll wake up at the time I want to, no matter how early I get to bed, I’ll still wind up oversleeping by 20 minutes.
I’m proud to say my sole alarm clock is fifteen years old. I feel like I win a small victory for frugality by not throwing away a product that isn’t broken, even if battered.
I’m no ones image of a morning person but I only need one alarm clock. My body wakes up but my brains stays in bed for 45 minutes. And woe to the person who asks my brain to do something in that 45 minutes. Give me that time and I’ll give you the rest of the day.
What really woke me up one morning was the then state of the art clock radio that could not change stations. Larry King at night got me Dr. J. Vernon Mcgee, and I got to hear live (?) his famous “Die-us Eye-ray” quote.
Tara is an adventure seeking ‘go getter’. Her friendship with Luann and role in this strip is (I hope) to get Luann to spend more of her energy embracing goals and talents and waste less on overreacting and freaking out.
As long as Tara’s getting Luann to try new things, how about a new hairstyle for Luann? She’s worn her hair more or less the same way since the strip started. She’s in college now. Time to update her look.
In terms of today’s comic premise, I am not Tara, nor a fan of the Tara’s of the world. I am more of a Luann, and willfully so since retirement. Indeed, however, I have cut back from three separate alarm clocks to just one, only rarely set….
Luann’s approach to getting up early (i.e. 6 AM) is all wrong (…no wonder she can’t function…). The absolute 1st order of business is not to get dressed but to go straight to the kitchen and make yourself a cup-o-caffeine or two (or three). Getting dressed is last on the list, after coming to life and all chores and work prep are complete.
I’m somewhere between the 2, my main alarm clock is the timer on my stereo, but sometimes the CD doesn’t play so just in case I have a regular alarm clock set for 2 minutes later.
My late dog was the best alarm clock. I had to get up when he woke me to let him out, and once I did, I would be too awake to go back to bed (still sleepy, but not sleepy enough). I miss him.
