Hmmm. No towel, no blanket, no other coverings as others suggested yesterday. Jack is completely in the “buff.”

Now the next question is: Will Jack acknowledge Luann’s presence in the class room and will he walk over to her to “admire” her “work” before suddenly remembering that he’s not dressed?

The first two panels are actually good. Panel #1 – the body line of Jack just visible past the silhouette of the chair shows conclusively that Jack is completely naked. Panel #2 – The drawing of Jack, except for the cartoony face consistent with this strip, is actually quite good. You also see some of Jack’s character: he likes his body and likes showing it off. And the first two panels are fit for a family newspaper. Kudos, Evans.

The whole thing is wasted by Panel #3. Luann is acting like some . . . I don’t know what. Seriously, you can’t say she is acting like an 11 year old. Most 11 year olds are pretty damn interested in nudity, and when given permission to look, as in this art class, they absolutely will look. You can’t say that Luann is acting like an Amish person; Amish girls grow up diapering male and female babies, and watching hugely endowed farm animals mate. You can’t say Luann is “Victorian” — Victorian girls who went to Art School saw and studied classical statuary with everything hanging out.

Luann’s utterly immature attitude and demeanor is insulting to the class, and to the model (I mean, how would you like it if someone found the sight of you so disturbing they would have to look away?). She would be given an “F” and be asked to leave both the classroom and the class — to laughter and sneering. .

For some reason, Luann seems to have a problem with nudity. This goes way beyond being immature. I am still disapointed that the model had to be someone she knew; I was hoping that if the model was a total stranger, that she would be able to conquer her internal demons (whatever the cause of them) and concentrate on sketching. If she is serious about art, maybe she needs a counselor (NOT Bernice…)

Say what you will about Luann’s comfort level, but Jack sure seems to be having a helluva good time.

One thing for all the Luann bashers – I’d guess it’s pretty different (easier?) sketching a nude stranger than someone that you have (only) dated…

I remember back in college taking a drawing class and doing the quick study pose thing. This went on for days and days. Then one day (and I was sick that day) the instructor brings a model in. She comes out in a robe and does the poses and then drops the robe. Well some of the students dropped jaws, pens, pencils,…. you name it. I heard about it but was “lucky I guess” because it was repeat day … same gal. Then turn about became fair play and he brought a male model… wasn’t as much “fun”. Not that there was any but the instructor asked at the end… do you prefer the male or female model…. and the class was pretty much split in 2 as far as male female students. By more than a 2/3rd majority was chose the girl….

Why are the writers keeping Luann in a state of perpetual immaturity and emotional repression? No normal young woman her age would have any problem confronting a male nude figure. She needs to either grow up or get help.

I don’t know about gals. So I don’t know how Luann will handle it, but it would be difficult for me to meet a girl in a social context if I had seen her naked in an art class. Of course I do not have the “artistic temperament” that artist students are supposed to have.

As with the 2010 Gunther incident discussed yesterday, the real G&K take on this whole arc is yet to come. It will be in the form of her introspective thoughts How would Jack react if I posed nude? and/or her interaction with Jack, Tara and Nil.

In the (in)famous Quill breakup of Feb. 2016 Luann stated she was going to (paraphrasing) “start to really live my own life.” Perhaps Tara was created to move Luann along. Because, so far, only Gunther, Tiffany and Bernice have seen any heavy he-she action.

Well if she wants Ana tusk career in art she’d better get over this! However I can totally understand her deep discomfort at the model being Jack whom she has dated and had fun with. I’m sure she thinks Jack is attractive in a sweet, goofy jock sort of way. Personally I like Jack much better than Quill. He seems real and down to earth. I thin Jack has real boyfriend potential for Luanne.

All the life drawing classes I had a 2 different schools NEVER had a student as the model, they were hired models. Of all sizes, shapes, ages.

I don’t see how any school would allow students to pose naked for other students. It crosses a line that I’m finding hard to describe this early in the morning. :-)

How comfortable would any of us feel if our nude model was a co-worker or neighbor that we saw (clothed) regularly? I think that’s the real reason Luann has her head down. More to do with WHO is nude than the nudity.

It occurs to me that Luann is not just looking away out of her own embarrassment here; she’s actually hiding (from Jack’s sight) behind her canvas. She can’t look at Jack, whether she might want to, or not, because then he could see her face too, and that’s what she doesn’t want.

With Luann already hesitant about sketching a nude form of any sort, and with her so obviously flustered at the thought of that nude form being Jack…. I have to say that I am feeling good about Luann’s sticking with doing it. Even though she is shrinking back some and is diverting her gaze to her phone….. she has not ran from the room , but instead she is working through it as well as she can at the moment .

So, to me, this feels like growth on Luann’s part!!!!!

    Additional comments:

    1) I like Jack’s “poses”. He seems to be having a good time with all the attention he is receiving.

    2) I like in the first panel how Greg has drawn Jack in silhouette. Very nice, creative style.

    3) I like Zebo’s instructions and manner today. I also think a 15 second “quick sketch” is an interesting concept… forces the students to edit quickly on-the-fly.

Thinking about the phone’s presence, I understand the comments better than I did. As has been noted, it is ridiculous of her to be so unnerved by a friend’s nudity that she has to count the seconds until the end.

It’s also a very sad commentary on millennials. Luann looks pathetic for being, if only by habit, unwilling and/or unable to USE HER HEAD to count off seconds.

I don’t understand Luann. When she saw Gunther in full month, she had a big smile on her face. She and Gunther are still friends and had seen each other many times after the incident without any problems. So why can’t she just look at another male friend, Jack, in a buff. She should be smiling and enjoy sketching Jack.

I believe (as Annie said) Luann doesn’t want Jack to see her. Just like she tried to stop Tara from gesturing (to Nil and Jack) in the cafeteria. Jack is always coming on to her and she’s not interested. She’s ducking behind the easel. My hope is that Zebo asks Jack to pose facing away rom the class. Maybe then Luann will do a quick sketch.

Unfortunately the kind of sketching required in this class takes maturity and discipline; Luann just isn’t there yet. Nil sought permission for her to come into the class based on her talent and (sadly) she’s being a flake and squandering the opportunity. I hope Zebo walks over and tells her to either do the work, take it seriously, or leave.

I admit I’m thinking only of this story, but I find it interesting that Zebo’s diction is much less pretentious than his clothing. I always assumed his wardrobe was part of the Evanses’ mockery of the pomposity of artistes.
