OMG! I called it. I suggested that Vale would enter “his” Van Gogh entry and win. However I did not expect that Luann would know that Vale had plagiarized her Also I would think she would be very upset that Vale had cheated. Does this mean the shopping trip is off?

Well, wake up, Luann. Your former tutor student plagiarized your story and you were too stupid to realize it. Now you are acting as if you are HONORED by that act? AND won second place too. Please. Vale stole the story from you…AND the $20. I won’t blame Bernice if she snarks. Honestly, Luann. Come on. You should be offended and confront Vale. Or move on and wise up. You have a lot of wising up to do, Luann. You were oblivious about who Tara really was. She was no friend of yours. I would pound my head on the wall if I were Bernice…but I know she hasn’t because she never knew about Vale. Had she known, she definitely would snark AND pounded her head on the wall.

Luann should make a formal complaint. Perhaps the judges could schedule a “write off” between Luann and Vale. Put them both in a classroom with witnesses in the room to observe them. Give them both the same topic, and have them both write a creative dissertation on that topic, right there in front of the witnesses. Then judge the final product. It will be an easy task to see that Luann has real writing talent and Vale has none at all. If enough pressure is put on Vale, he might even confess that he cheated. I’d like to see something like this happen.

Am I missing something? This is supposed to have been a HUMOR story contest, but there was no indication that Vale’s Van Gogh diary was supposed to be funny back when he and Luann were working on it.

And Vale did it all by himself. Using his own wiles…

If this was a nationwide contest, why is the prize so small?

Uh, what that creep Vale did is called plagiarism, I think, Lu. He stole your work as surely as though he stole your packages off your front porch, or copied off your paper during a math test.

So. I guess the even creepier Axel won first place?

If You want to be a teacher one day, You can’t let that stand.

Three months ago, on 8-13-22, Vale was wearing a “P” on his letter jacket. Airman made this comment: "Ironic. The “P” on his jacket just yells out “Plagiarist.” Actually the “P” on his jacket yelled out “PROPHETIC” referring to Airman’s comment!

That is really weird – in the first panel, the water in Monstro’s tank does not go all the way to the side of the tank. Monstro has strange powers…

First off, Luann has only read the names of the winners and not their stories so she is currently innocent of the fact that Vale recorded her and turned in her words as his paper.

Secondly, as someone has pointed out this was supposed to be a humorous story and I don’t see how Luann’s examples could be considered humorous. Unless Vale’s wrote a story mocking his tutor’s help with this assignment. Which would be major egg on Luann’s face.

Finally, assuming that Vale’s paper is word for word a quote from Luann, how does that look to the Tutoring committee? It would appear to them that Luann did not tutor Vale but did his work for him, and a tutor who just does someone homework is not helping anybody, so it maybe that if Luann exposes Vale she will be the one who suffers punishment.

In short no matter what happens it looks like Luann will be punched on the face – as usual.

Let’s hope this is something that will change Vale’s life for the best forever. I love how Luann’s reaction is just to be even happier than before and not be mad at Vale, she’s able to see all the positives of the situation ♡. Now, who won first place? I hope it’s Mr. Fogarty because I want to see him and Luann meet again and become friends. But maybe this will be the perfect time to introduce a new character… How wonderful!

You didn’t “help” write that, Luann, you wrote it for him and he put his name on it. And she probably won’t even notice or call him on it.

Luann gave Vale 5 entries for one week of V.G’s diary. He would have to write a lot more to have enough to enter the humor contest. So Vale, or someone else, did a lot more writing. And I don’t recall anything humorous about the entries Luann game him.

Perhaps Vale’s funny story was about how he was supposed to write a paper for his college class but it was too hard for him. So he got a tutor. He was able to convince the tutor to do most of the writing without her even knowing it. That might be a funny story.

Good morning Luann readers. I have noticed an amusingly obnoxious commenter here on a daily basis. Most of the comments are replies to a different reader’s original post. Seeking out these comments have become a secondary reason for enjoying this strip.

I’m not convinced Vale would even have cared or known about a story contest…

Vale stuck her up essentially, stealing her work, getting credit on his own, for her work, and to make it even more outrageous, he’s higher than her for her story! She is so naive, and her self-esteem needs serious boosting. I don’t know of Bern will help, given her predilection to sarcasm, the last thing Luann needs right now. Where is Bets when you need her? She would recognize the theft right away and would be on her way to avenge it. Or at least setting Lu straight. Let’s wait and see.

I thought this contest was for humorous stories. Luann’s Van Gogh rants weren’t all that funny. Did Vale come up with different material after all? This contest is just weird.

A girl in high school asked me to write a poem for her because she couldn’t do it. I was in college and obliging. I gave her two, under the assumption she wasn’t literate enough to have written the first.

Turned out I was wrong. She won the school poetry contest. She must have been a much better writer than she let on.

(Either that or I robbed the rightful winner of winning.)

okay… so I had this idea for funding education where teachers would get a small %-age of whatever their students earned in life.

“I helped write this” well at least Luann knows she’s involved in some way….but what her reaction is when she reads it should be interesting. Who knows? Maybe he just incorporated some of her thoughts but used his own take on VanGogh to make it funny? I just don’t like the looks of that Vale guy though, too swarmy for me.

Bernice is right (for a change.) The chances of Vale even sharing the prize money are slim and none. Slim went out the window a moment ago.

It’s great that Luann won and recognizes her talent. However, I disagree with everyone who thinks Vale should get away with recording and stealing her ideas. Plagiarism, period. He will continue to get others to do his work and will never learn to do his own research. It may be a small contest, but the lesson is invaluable.

If Bernice finds out Luann tutored him and he recorded her “examples”, she might encourage Luann to protest, or they would argue about it for a couple days.

Bernice lost weight from Sunday to today. They were the same size on Sunday. Just a guesstimate, Bernice has lost about what Tiffany has gained.
