He was correct. It was NOT illegal. A horribly bad idea, bad for himself and for the court, but not illegal. Well, bright side: It may BECOME illegal soon, if Congress and the Senate can make it happen.
The real crime is that the supreme court (with uncle tom present) redefined bribes as freedom of speech through political contributions; ignoring the dictionary definitions completely. The politician does not make what was given a bribe the contributor does!“Bribe persuade (someone) to act in one’s favor, typically illegally or dishonestly, by a gift of money or other inducement.”
Pay your fair share in taxes and I (rarely) begrudge anyone’s decision how they spend their $$$. That said, I am trying to wrap my brain around a vacation that costs more than 1/2 million dollars. I guess it IS good to be king.
Not only did he break the law and act like a dummy about it, his wife, Gini needs to be endicted for her part in the Jan6 insurrection! NO ONE is above the law but it seems these twits seem to think they are.
A disgusting display of “holier than thou” attitude and arrogant replies.
This govt is so screwed up, allowing a take over of the demented and twisted SC!
In Canada, there’s the conflict of interest act as well as the requirement to disclose. I’d like to assume the US has something similar. Many businesses, including the one I’m employed at, require signing CofI as well as gifts from any business contacts. And I’m just in manufacturing not sales or management.
Never mind the “legal requirements”. Between the travel and the Georgia house sale…he is clearly choosing the path of lying, concealment, deception, and entitlement to abuse the power of his position to glom off an unscrupulous billionaire. What a pathetic sack of hore-puckey.
I remember reading a comment that justice thomas made to one of his law clerks in which he stated he was going to make them pay referring to white people in general.
I know the quote is not exact but I could not remember it all, but it referred to the white majority.
In my knowing full well how government works against the individual; his-justice thomas flaunting of the current law will become law when we have 13 justices on the court to represent the 13 judicial districts of the United States and his wife goes to jail for her recent actions in my opinion.

Anyone with the slightest bit of integrity would resign. I bet it won’t happen.

Illegality aside, he shows a complete lack of ethics.

I’d rather have a SCOTUS that is apolitical rather than amoral.

Real answer: “I didn’t care if it was illegal.”
After all, a tenet of Republicanism is that the law only applies to other people.

Henry Kissinger: “The illegal we do immediately. The unconstitutional takes a little longer.”
Clarence Thomas: “The illegal I do immediately. The unconstitutional takes four more votes from my friends.”

SCOTUS was bought and paid for by the Republicans. That should tell you all you need to know.
