Right wingers don’t get that society IS something that needs to be maintained. Because they’re not interested in a society of all, for all, and by all. Or any part of that triple.
Instead, they’re basically doing their damndest to pull it all down around OUR ears.
The QOP plan is to give the job to people who will sell the material on the side (and share the “profits” with them) instead of actually fixing anything.
This comic by Ramirez is actually making the Democrats look better, I mean, I personally prefer a classic look that will most likely last hundreds of years!
The QOP had 4 years to pass their own infrastructure bill, like their ObamaCare replacement health care, or the former guy’s promise to provide free COVID cures- just like the one he had. They delivered nothing except tax cuts and out of control border police. Oh, and whatever was promised in secret to Putin.
Apparently no one has informed the dummies in the Democrat party that we have a 23 trillion dollar national debt, that will be passed down to our children and grand children. The future will be less money available for social programs as you’ll need to take 25% of taxes collected to start paying this down. Damn communists at the DNC!
I grant you that the social elements to the Biden infrastructure plan will likely not see the light of day, but, when dealing with Repubs, it might be necessary to do a super big plan in order to get the basic plan you really want. With Repubs, just putting forward a basic plan would get you nothing at all.
The GOP want a bare bones 1920’s plan that protects the 1%ers tax break windfall, while the Democrats are trying to bring the country into the 21st century. Act big and bold or go home.
Bridges and roads are crumbling because the last few decades, nothing was done to keep the infrastructure maintained! Our Grids are ancient and nothing is being done to insure they aren’t hacked! Ever wonder what would happen should Russia or China hacked our grids? No water, power, heat/air, food,…..there ya go! A Third world country in 3 days or less……
Why don’t we continue to award the bridge building to the lowest bidder. Like my morning cup of coffee the bridges are always good until the last drop.
If it’s not intended to be a government-funded, corporate revenue source from the Get-Go, the GOP Leadershit shoots it down. The GOP Leadershit tolerates the welfare of the people only to the extent that it’s necessary for the coffers of the 1%. It’s called “neo-serfdom.” Any argument to the contrary is absolute bullshit.
The bridge over a freeway that was built by the WPA was just replaced a couple years ago and only because the entrances and exits to the freeway were changed.
In Illinois we have a pair of bridges like the GOP one pictured. It’s been extensively repaired, but it also has been noted by engineers that it should have been replaced at least 20, maybe 30 years ago. In the modern world, we don’t build bridges like those anymore.
Social spending is as important as improving bridges. Building a better society, builds better bridges.
Great art work (as we have come to expect from Mr Ramirez) and lame-brained half-truthy content (ditto).
It’s worth remembering that the GOP babbled idiotically about “infrastructure weeks” and the like for four perishing years and did absolutely nothing. How can that be? Well, for one thing, projects that would actually benefit the general populace are not the least bit favored by the GOP, and if they could, now they’d slow walk any and all talk of “Infrastructure” until Biden is out of office.
The bridge on the right looks like bridges in Europe that were built centuries ago and today carry vehicle traffic far heavier than they were originally carrying with no difficulty. The one on the left resembles the plethora of structurally deficient bridges throughout America — and it’s lower, so it’ll restrict river travel as well.
Guess most of you don’t live in California where the democrats have had a super majority in both houses and have controlled the governor’s office for almost twenty years and we have the highest gas tax in the country, currently at a $1 per gallon and the democrats want to even increase that. Our roadways are crappy and full of potholes that haven’t been redone in over ten years, bridges and overpasses are in desperate need of repairs and upgrades. The democrats take the gas tax and spend it on non-transportation related projects. So it’s not all the republicans fault.

The GOP plans involve overthrowing the government because it didn’t take the first time. And as for the rest of their plan…
…well, I have no idea what tax cuts for the rich has to do with infrastructure…

What GOP plan? It’s nothing more than a few scavenged planks and found nails. The bridge on the left is far too elaborate for any Republican plan.

Sorry, Mike. The Republicans have no plan, other than blocking progress, and making it harder to vote.

Great idea, Mike!
Think of the tourism! People from all over the world to look at a bridge that displays the backward, deliberate ignorance of Republicans.
This is why we can’t have nice things.
