Sometimes going in circles is just exactly what management needs. It doesn’t matter what their people are doing, it matters that they have people to manage.
Next they will decide to increase management. They’ll find they can’t afford more big salaries, so they’ll fire half the workers – and wonder why production is down. Why does an MBA destroy common sense?
“Management by the numbers” was one of the precepts of the managed economy of the old Soviet Union. In one classic example, the manager of a shoe factory was being evaluated on how many shoes it could turn out per month. He discovered that he could up his numbers significantly if he made only left shoes, so he did. And got rewarded for it.
For those right wing nuts who think it’s the left that “controls” education, if schools for the <1%‘ers work so well how come they can see what’s in front of their nose? More than 50 years ago there were riots near here. Reporters went into the community after that and asked what was needed. Answer? Jobs, good schools, decent housing. On the anniversary the reporters went back, asked the same question,… got the same answer. 50+ damn years. Wanna get some job growth that’s more than part-time, minimum wage, and no benefits? That’d be good. Americans are working harder for less than they did 50 or 60 years ago by a large percentage. There’s 3 types of liars – liars, damned liars, and statisticians.
Where I worked (a stringed instrument manufacturer) it got to where there were as many people walking around with clipboards as there were people actually making instruments. When the company continued losing money they laid off, wait for it, people who actually made the instruments.
Hate to pick some more nits here (well, maybe not hate — but if both sides apply equal force (thrust) at the same time, the boat will remain static. If one side applies a higher thrust, the boat will rotate in the direction in the direction of the greater thrust (again, assuming the applied forces are consistent). No circular motion would result. {Stepping down from Isaac Newton’s Chair}.
This one reminds me of a wise remark from a former boss (a veteran Navy Commander). “Blessed are they that go around in circles, for they shall be called Big Wheels.”

I take it this is a “right to work” state. On the other hand, unions have long ago become just another level of management.
