“Attack Of The Killer Mosquitoes”. Wasn’t this a movie on Mystery Science Theater 3000?

This is rather scratchy – only a fella from some cold-weather region can romanticise mosquitoes. The reality, on the other hand, is rather biting.

Just watch out if they decide to start nuzzling you with their noses.

I grew up in the South, thought I knew mosquitoes. But a summer spent in Maine taught me a lesson. Go out at night, you didn’t need a swarm to carry you away. Just a couple could do the job.

I’ve heard there are places where the mosquitos are thick enough to ride on.

Jill should get together with the autistic boy from a couple weeks ago. A power couple in a different sense of the term.

If you thought beach sand in the swimsuit was uncomfortable, imagine what the same scenario with mosquitoes instead of sand.

Mosquito: a tiny lawyer with wings. A blood-sucking parasite.

I know, I know, this is just a cartoon, but the physics of a human, even a small one, being carried by a “mosquito cloud” just don’t work. Given the lifting power of one mosquito, that cloud would have to be the size of a Zeppelin to lift two kids. And what is Jill standing on? The mosquitos in contact with her body could not use their wings at all, and a fairly small number of mosquitos would have to hold her entire weight, against other mosquitos (who then couldn’t use THEIR wings!), with those spindly legs, which couldn’t hold more than a tiny fraction of an ounce. Even with a quick calculation, the whole thing falls apart pretty quickly.

If you ask people “Which animal is deadliest to human beings?”, most of them will guess lions, tigers, bears, sharks, black-widow spiders, rattlesnakes, and the like. Not even close. Mosquitoes kill off over a million of us each year, mainly thru transmission of malaria.
