I also notice how Linus takes it all in his stride. No surprise. No question. Just grab hold, as if this is something he is quite used to.

Today’s strip is an example of one of my (very) few complaints about this series: crossing the line into doing something outside the realm of reality, i.e., Snoopy turning into a helicopter and being able to fly.  Still, this isn’t anywhere as bad as what the “Heathcliff” strip has devolved into.  Now that Peter Gallagher has taken over that series, besides being poorly drawn and painfully unfunny (in my opinion), Heathcliff can do anything: drive a car, ride a motorcycle, fly a helicopter, etc.  The early strips, done by George Gately, rarely had Heathcliff doing something a cat couldn’t do in reality.  I guess it’s just one of my…pet peeves.  Ahem.  Sorry.  Carry on.

There was actually a pull toy of the Snoopy-copter. You pulled it along the floor by a string and his ears would spin. Snoopy and Woodstock also did the copter thing in a TV special. The one where they bring the Little Red-Headed Girl on camera and Charlie Brown finally kisses her (Eventually Schulz reportedly regretted that one, even though he wrote it).

This reminds me of that Batman episode, when Batman uses a aerosol can of shark repellent to fend off the shark while dangling from a ladder below the Bat chopper.

Ok, old joke time: A man was stranded in his house during a flash flood. As the waters rose higher and higher, he was forced first to the upstairs level, and then finally on top of his roof.

A recuse team in a rowboat came by and told him to jump into the boat. He refused, saying, “God will rescue me!” A while later, a rescue helicopter came by and lowered a rope ladder to him. He waved them off, saying, “God will rescue me!”

The waters continued to rise, and the man drowned. When he got to heaven, he said, “God, I prayed to you…why didn’t you rescue me?”

A voice from out of heaven boomed, “I sent you a boat and a helicopter, what more do you want??”

One never knows when knowing a WW I flying ace will come in handy. Transitioning from a Sopwith Camel to a helicopter is so much easier if you already have flying experience.

Linus didn’t have to grab on and lose Truffles. sliding down the roof into the snow at his age shouldn’t be an issue.
