IKEA’s got the most confusing business model there is. Who starts a company thinking “what the world needs is a one-stop source for build-it-yourself bookcases and meatballs”?
Brad reads them, too. As a quilter, reading the pattern instructions is a must. For me, that means a LOT of reading because I find most patternsconfusing and / or difficult. I not only have to read them over and over, I have to draw them out, label them and continue to do it throughout the project.
I love the way that Muffin is depicted in todays cartoon the right eye open in the first and third panels to say nothing about the yawn in the last . ? I wonder where the precious Roscoe is today . ?
I’ve built most of my furniture from scratch. Usually follow plans in woodworking magazines. So I built a dry sink cabinet following the plan and instructions. I get to the doors to find out the plans/instructions were wrong and the doors I made to plan couldn’t be flush. No big deal I made them overlay instead. Just had to buy different hinges.
My oldest grandson, when he was little, loved building things, solving puzzles, and playing with his Transformers. I asked him how he knew how to put something together. In all seriousness, he replied, " Well Gramps, first you have to read the constructions."
Even tho I am an old man I have always asked an employee if I can not find what I am looking for in a store, read and follow assembly instructions(provided they are in English) and (horrors) ask people for directions if I don’t have an address-and if my phone GPS winds up sending me in the wrong direction
Where I worked we got TSB’s[technical service bulletins],the info was important to the way certain parts would work in a specific vehicle and how to diagnose, install replacements. Kinda like an up-date to software/ hardware and how it works with a vehicle.
A friend is a very well paid techie and editor for a major online company. Asked about special training she said that she got her start by reading the manuals.

How many doors did that Ikea project have? If it had four, wouldn’t it have ended up looking like a chicken sedan?

I didn’t know lopsided chickens had coops.

My brothers had a rule – build it first, then read the instructions to see if you did it right.

Earl built it that way, so the eggs can all roll into a central collection point.

When they say that Ikea furniture is unlikely to survive a move? They mean a move from the family room, to the den.

I thought all the tools were included, I used scissors and cut out the hammer and screw drivers included in the instructions, they never worked.
