Sometimes those tests do catch you off guard. Most of the time they will tell you that it is a test before the test, it is the ones that only tell you after the test that it was just a test that get you worried.
For some reason we get a test on the TV most weekdays each week. If we’re lucky we were muted for a commercial so it doesn’t startle us since they are loud.
We get alerts on our phones, but those are always genuine. We haven’t seen/heard one of those tests in quite a while. But then we rarely use on-air TV or radio.
It wasn’t long ago when North Korea was demonstrating the range of its ballistic missiles, and threatening the U.S. There was a test of the EAS in Hawaii, but someone made a mistake, and it was broadcast as a warning, not a test.
In Mexico City, there is a public alarm system which sounds a warning when an earthquake is about to hit. Of course, that only gives you about a minute or so to get out of your building before the trembling begins. Since I have to go down three flight of stairs to get to the street, I usually just stay put and hope that it’s not a bad one!

It’s funny that those emergency broadcast alerts always interrupt the program. Interrupting the commercials would be doing the viewers a big favor!

Ziggy and I are both of the generation whose attention is quickly seized by the EBS/EAS tones.

Saw a LOT of those TV “commercials” during the Cold War era.

Why I don’t like listening to the news…I prefer to read it online. More careful about what they say in print.

The highlight of watching recorded shows is figuring out if the alert is recorded or current. They can inject alerts on recorded shows.
