Arlo, I think it’s a moot point. I don’t believe Kansas is known for fish tacos to begin with. And I’m not sure what Janis’ eyes are doing in the last panel. Too me, she looks as if she’s fallen asleep…
Best fish tacos I have had were from a fast food chain in AZ called Rubio’s. I have tried all over where I live in TX and nothing comes close. My daughter moved to TN so now I have no reason to go there again. Sigh.
I’m a Kansas. I have traveled all over the world, even to places most will never ever go, and I still think Kansas is the best! I resent all the put downs by people who are clueless.
We left Colorado for Kansas and haven’t looked back – nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile away. We live 9 miles north of Cheyenne Bottoms Wetlands (migrating birds stop to feed and rest there), and the wildlife in our yard is a photographers dream – birds, rabbits, deer, an occasional bobcat, coyote and raccoon. Peace and quiet with a great view, and the night sky is awesome for stargazers. There is a lot of history and sightseeing in the state – we’ve been here 14 years and are still working on visiting everything – Monument Rocks (Chalk Pyramids), Mushroom Rock State Park, Flint Hills, Kansas Lavender Fields, Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, Strataca, the largest salt mine and one of the 8th Wonders of Kansas, the Cosmosphere and Space Center, and St Fidelis Church, Victoria – the Cathedral of the Plains – just to name a few. There are many historical sites and museums – here are a few museums: Boot Hill Museum, Dwight D. Eisenhower Library and Museum, Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum, Oz Museum and Evel Knievel Museum. The worst reason to move is just because someone else lives in that area. That “someone else” could also move later, and you’ve uprooted yourself for nothing.
Arlo & Janice have spent years in thier current home. Arlo loves the new area, and also recognizes the pros and cons (think of the alligators from earlier strips), while Janice is focusing more on being near the kids and is not seeing any of the things she won’t like. It’s bad to make a huge move without seeing all the factors, and that is what Arlo is trying to help her with.
Right on, Arlo! Ours are in the mountains in CO, in the mountains in CA, and a 5-minute walk from the mountains in AK; we often talk of moving to the first 2 (and I talk of moving the the 3rd; their mother, however, complains about IL winters, so…….).
KS? Yeah, don’t think we’d be talking so much. And not just because they’d be a one-day drive there.
Has it ever been confirmed where they live, and where Gene etc lives now? It seems that A&J are midwest someplace, and Gene and such could be the Carolina shores? Or further south, like Mississippi / Louisiana area?
So many retired-age people move to be near “the kids,” but then what happens if the kids decide to move? Or the older grandkids go off to college and then move to another city? Move to the coast (or Kansas) if you like it there, but don’t move just to be closer to “the kids.”

Depends on where in Kansas. There’s some great barbecue around Kansas City.
OTOH all Dodge City has is Delmonico’s, which got minus three stars from Michelin.

Every place has it’s good and bad. It’s the tolerance of the bad that determines if the good wins you over.

Jimmy Johnson doesn’t like Kansas? I wonder if he’s ever been there? Ignorant bias is the worst kind.

Are there no fish tacos in Kansas? There is enough water to have fishing there, too, isn’t it?

Yeah, you probably would consider moving there, too! I mean, after all, your letting your son and daughter-in-law do all your thinking.
