By the time kids grow up, “Drive-thru Window Guy” may be replaced by innovations in ordering, payment, & fulfillment. A customer might not even leave the house!
My sister had that job for a while when she was in college – it’s tougher than it looks, especially when it’s late and you’re dealing with entitled folks.
There was a couple at my church who have 2 biological children and 3 adopted, all close in age. Every time they come in the kids would come to me for hugs. One day the mom sent me a PM. One of her daughters had to write about what she wanted to be when she grew up…and she wrote about “the lady at church who plays tambourine & gives nice hugs.” I don’t think I’d ever been so moved.
Then he advances to burger builder, assistant foreman, foreman, and end’s up owning a chain of restaurants. Zoe takes care of the economy, and Wren handles human resources!
Sometimes one would rather be lucky than talented, I hear of so many celebrities who were discovered at supermarkets etc and even just hanging out at the mall, maybe somebody will discover Hammie at the drive thru window.
As one famous saying says: Not that there is anything wrong with that!
But speaking of fast food, as this is topic, the McD restaurants here, all have off shore, mainly from the Philippines, temporary workers…Yes, they are here legally, on renewable contacts…
Speaking realistically: We need people to fill all the jobs that are out there. Just look at the waves of people who want to get into the US, even illegally, to fill all those jobs that American born people do not want to touch. I’m thinking of mushroom farms, orchards, greenhouses, field workers, chicken farm workers, meat processing plants, office cleaners, house cleaners, painters, roofers, nursing home attendants, laundry workers, etc. …, etc. …
I wanted to be an astronaut, but settled for getting my pilot’s license. I remember another kid in class who wanted to be a garbageman, “They only work one day a week.”

Somewhere in that simple, naive mind of Hammie is potential for something better then that I’m sure. It just needs to be kindled, mature and grow.
