How wonderful that the Woman is sewing the Boy’s Halloween costume for him! I remember when I was about 30 years old (many, many, many seasons ago!), the office staff wanted to do a Snow White theme for Halloween and since I was the smallest female with black hair, I was chosen to be Snow White. My mom (who was a terrific seamstress!) went to the local Goodwill store and bought a tank top and a flowing skirt, then proceeded to sew puffy sleeves onto the tank top, and I had my Snow White costume! Unfortunately I never inherited my mom’s sewing skills no matter how many summers I spent at sewing school.
I remember once having to throw together a costume at the last minute for myself. I had a rubber cat face mask and a trenchcoat, so I went as “secret cat agent”.
OT Although I love Bucky from Get Fuzzy in the end he was too Republican to keep as my avatar (Sorry Republicans, no offence). Now I’m permanently indignant Elvis instead.
So … which cats are going to get into trouble with the Woman’s sewing supplies? That measuring tape looks enticing and what fun they could have with the thread!
Yay, sewing supplies! And I must must must have that tiger in the chart. He’s soooooo cute. Tiger is my favorite animal. Of course it’s always been cat, but specifically tiger (a tiger is a cat).
Since nobody’s mentioned it yet – I like the sewing box face with the crooked smile. And great memories of the pincushion with the strawberry. Remember that? Both my grandmothers and my mother had one. Alas, I do not own one. My pins are in a box. For those who don’t sew – the strawberry is used to sharpen your needle. It’s the little red blob attached to the pincushion.
Somehow.I dont.recall.halloween being so complicated when I was a kid. Just put on any thing.and.go grab candy. Nor do.I recall anyone decorating their home either maybe a pumpkin thats it. But who knows maybe i was just too high on sugar to notice
My mother used to make me costumes for Halloween. Most memorable was when I went as a rainbow: a silver sheath dress with tutu-like layers of fabric in all the colors all the way down, complete with raindrop barrettes in my hair.
I recently donated four original watercolor paintings to Alley Cats and Angels of NC for their yearly auction to raise funds for their cat shelter! You can bid on them online and there is information on how they can mail them to you on their event site, should you win!
Here is a link to Alley Cats and Angels auction: https://event.gives/acaa They have all sorts of great items up for auction right now, to help kitties in need!
Here are links to each of my watercolor paintings:
Puck: https://event.gives/acaa/items/133455
Lupin: https://event.gives/acaa/items/133462
Elvis: https://event.gives/acaa/items/133463
Beatrix: https://event.gives/acaa/items/133464
If you have any questions, please refer back to their site, they have a lot of great information for folks bidding. I don’t always know the details of the events I donate items to, (I’ll know the money goes to help cats at the shelter, for example. However, I might not know the end times for auctions or mailing and shipping info, etc). Sometimes folks ask me instead of the organization and miss out on valuable time when it comes to bidding. Good luck!!!
OT….. Shirin has only received 7 donations for $455. A long way to go. If you good give just a little something maybe it will start to add up. Thank you.
I made my kids’ costumes too. But I set a limit of Sept 15 for decisions. They obliged, and they looked great! Anyone who changed the mind could not go out for candy. Problem solved.
When I was little, Halloween was a major holiday for my Mom. She made us incredibly elaborate costumes for years. I remember a spectacular southern belle outfit I had, a long yellow dress with a big matching hat. Her masterpiece, coming a few years later, was a Marie Antoinette-type ball gown. The top was silk satin and the skirt was silk taffeta, with lots of lace and hand-made silk roses. She was so upset that she couldn’t find a child-size powdered white wig to complete the outfit.
I reproduced the Marie Antoinette gown as a doll dress (actually a bunny dress) a few years before my Mom died, and she recognized it right away and was very touched that I remembered.
No white wig for the bunny, either, but Nouveau Hats By Sharon made her a gorgeous feathered hat instead.
The boy is in training to be a mascot for a football team! Mizzou, Louisiana State, Clemson, Auburn, Princeton, Idaho State, Tennessee State, many more, but these are the best known. I am a proud Mizzou (Missouri University) Tiger, myself.

Do seem to remember “astronaut dinosaur” being a Star Trek episode at some point. We haven’t had any shark doctors yet that I can recall.

Did you ever have to make up your mind?
Pick up on one and leave the others behind
It’s not often easy, with so many kinds
Did you ever have to make up your mind?
Did you ever have to finally decide?
Say yes to tiger and let shark doctor ride
With so many choices, and ideas that collide
Did you ever have to finally decide?
Sometimes there’s one with a deep sea vibe from way down beneath,
With jaws up to here, and plenty of teeth
Just when you think that’s the one for your Pucky-ween
Your heart gets set on loud roars and giant toe beans
And then you know you better make up your mind
Pick up on one and leave the others behind
It’s not often easy, but you’re gonna be fine
Did you ever have to make up your mind?
Sometimes you really dig a space dino the moment you see it
When you get distracted by a tiger, you then wanna be it
So in walks your mom who has to remind you
And says “It’s getting late, bud, please make up your mind”
Then you bet you’d better finally decide
And say yes to tiger, let the other ones ride
You’ll have long face whiskers and stripes on your sides
Thank Cat you can then finally decide!

Perhaps the Boy’s costume indecision was his clever attempt to keep the Woman from having time to make costumes for the cats this year.
