Pucky! You are the last of the three cats I would suspect of doing such a thing. What set off your territorial behavior?

I get the feeling that no one knew this thing they all do was a “problem” until Elvis got ruffled.

And, of course, now it’s the end of the world.

I wasn’t aware one could just erase someone else’s scent. Bad Pucky…Bad Kitty. What made him do that?

Puck , that’s almost as bad as when the People vacuum all the cat hair off the red couch so that other cats then wouldn’t know that the sofa is already claimed.

My cats don’t fuss over scent. They just add theirs wherever. My late, great Pixel rubbed a few spots on our door frames so often, we saw a darkened spot on each part that he rubbed.

Jason and I say they’re just answering their neighbourhood email when one of them rubs the fence :) The dog as well!

Sultan and Sheba also just have to rub where the other one has been! Figure it’s asserting ownership, including of us … LOL!

My house in Bemidji had a particularly attractive corner where all the warm air collected and you could see into four rooms. The cats rubbed the corner so much the seam in the drywall was visible!

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

Tabith-Isis: We take you live to the library where Beatrixia has made a remarkable discovery. Bea?

Beatrixia: I was going through some old scroll files and discovered something remarkable.

    Tabith-Isis: And what was that?

Bea: It appears that there was a chamber at the Great Pyramid that was hidden by the Grand Vizier. Violet-Ifa has translated the relevant passage. Vi?

    Violet-Ifa: Grand Vizier Whiskers writes:

This wall is in great need of repair. I have authorized the Royal Maintenance Team to re-surface and paint.

    Vi: Whiskers goes on:

The Royal Maintenance Team has done an excellent job. It looks like a brand new wall. Here comes King Catfu to comment.

King Catfu: Where is the door to the Archive Chamber?

    Whiskers: Archive Chamber?

King Catfu: Oh, never mind. It’s just a bunch of scrolls anyway.

Beatrixia: We searched the Great Pyramid, but only found a lot of gold and gems. Nothing very interesting.

Tabith-Isis: Maybe this scroll will help with a new search.

    Enter Lupinium

Lupinium: Did someone say something about adventure?

A lot of scent marking has to do with the personality of the cat in question. Out of four different cats, each one seems to approach marking an area differently.

    Happy Albert Day everyone!

Today marks ten years since a scruffy white cat walked up to a Man and meowed loudly. Of course the Man began searching for the cat’s owner. It took a little while to realize that he was the owner and the cat was Albert.

When I first got him, my born-feral BladeRunner could hardly bear to show up for meal times. Later, he would show up, hide under the table, and rub his head against the table leg while I got his delicious breakfast treat ready. After many years I told him, “You can claim that table leg all you want to, but the table is not the one that’s going to feed you.” He must have been listening, because now at last he’ll rub his head against me when I’m feeding him.

I’m going to predict right now that Puck’s doing this without really meaning to override any other kitty’s scent.

Oddly enough, whenever I pick up my phone, my girl Jez insists that I bring it close so that she can rub her face against one of its edges. She does this sporadically with other objects, but always with my phone. Maybe she knows I take it with me when I leave, so now if I get lost, other cats can help guide me home.

For once Lupin sees that Elvis’ outrage is justified. Remember, Puck, restoring kitty scent after cleaning is a team effort.

Our cats don’t generally have issues with each other…but they do try to erase the dog’s presence whenever they can. Whenever one of the mutts would move away, one or both cats would jump onto where ever he was and “whisk” away the “dog”.

My right leg is a constant battlefield. The dogs jump on it first, and wrap around it…then when they get tired of belly rubs and petting, move away; our black cat will wrap around my ankle and sit on my foot.

Our first cat, he didn’t do that, Salem used to sleep with the dog, in the Dog’s house. He would come in (Simba was too big, so he was only permitted in the front room and the Workout room and Family Room only) and just sit where ever the dog was, but not trying to erase him, just be near him, or his scent.

He is just adding his scent to the others. Saying that he belongs, that he is part of the group and its his house too. Elvis needs to chill, nothing gets erased they just all blend together in wonderful family harmony.
