The 1980’s were the Al Franken decade. No reason the 1990’s can’t be the Calvin decade.

How about the people who were consumed by all the things that Calvin said? That’s a better question.

Oh, the Me Generation is still with us. It’s perpetual. Look at DC and the elites. John Kerry and Joe Biden are some of the poster children.

Unbridled greed? Conspicuous consumption of wealth? Get-ahead-by-any-means? The FBI just squashed that at Mar-a-Lago.

Oh, Calvin, I know a six-year-old doesn’t want to hear it, but patience. You’re in 1992, and in another 25 years both you and the times will be just right for your propensities…

Calvin, unbridled greed and conspicuous consumption of wealth is still here. It’s just that those who crave it are no longer willing to work for it. They want the government to steal it from those who have and give it those who want it.

The “get ahead by any means” has eliminated working for it

It all started when you were not allowed to spank your child or to keep scores at their games! Todays children can be PROUD at being failures! Russia, The Orient, Europe teach their kids to be the BEST, we are happy with mediocrity. If you can say your kid was not shot today at school or kidnapped while walking to or from school.. Then that kid is happy and content! I am still waiting for that massive blackout where cell phones can not be charged… what will our children do…..

Our view of society is usually the result of our perspective more than the result of what we actually see. Like all the other times in most of living memory, the “Me Decade” was a television phenomenon.

I have an inkling of what Calvin is going through. I was a little to young for the 60’s. All that sex, drugs and rock & roll was only a spectator event for me. …sigh.

Someone who does not suffer from excessive greed is the author Bill Watterson, he cancelled Calvin and Hobbes in its prime. It is estimated if he started the comic up again with associated merchandise he could earn in excess of $200 million.
