Trumpology 101

This is one side of Calvin’s character. It is Calvin at his most cynical and his most selfish. The other side of Calvin’s nature was well demonstrated in a Sunday strip reprinted last year in which Calvin told Hobbes that he had been debating whether or not to cheat in a test. He listed reasoning on both sides of the argument. Hobbes asked, “What did you decide?” Calvin replied, “I didn’t. I ran out of time and handed in a blank sheet.” Hobbes then said, “Anyhow, merely acknowledging the issue is a moral victory.” Calvin replied, “Well, it seemed wrong to cheat in an ethics test.”

It’s not hypocrisy when I do it.

I love how Calvin just sinks fully into the mud and gets drenched in it.

The “oppressed” masses love to think they can benefit from the utilitarian ethic embrace by marxists and fascists where an elite class will do all for the “common good” of “the state”.

But in the end, they are ground under foot by the elite.

Six year olds tend to have sociopathic tendencies. Most grow out of it.

Hobbes always knows how to bring Calvin back down to earth; or, in this case, literally into the dirt.

another timeless comic from Bill. I think this comic perfectly sums up the “leopards ate my face” subreddit, or any other group of people who espouse getting ahead by hurting others only to whine when they get hurt the same way.

Means are how we achieve an end. Some ends are obviously good and desirable (such as feeding ourselves, living in houses, clothing ourselves, etc), and obviously justify the means to achieve them (raising crops and animals, making use of timber and metals, manufacturing, etc), so it’s an incorrect oversimplification to say that “the ends don’t justify the means”. What people really mean when they say that is “not ALL means are justified by an end” (for that matter, not all ends are desirable). Someone’s end (obtaining money) doesn’t justify him robbing me or stealing it from me. Someone’s end (living in a house) doesn’t justify stealing my house. But entering into a voluntary agreement to work for someone in exchange for money, or paying off a mortgage to buy a house is obviously justified by the desired end.

Moral relativism.

Like I’ve said before, Watterson was giving us warnings, not instructions.

Ah, the libertarian credo!

Lesson learned?

I love how well Hobbes delivers object lessons, in this case, the Golden Rule of treating others as one would want to be treated by them.
