Possibilities:Mystia dies saving Sparkle.Sparkle falls in love with widower but gets her memory back, the little one goes with her. Since Mystia is wife #1 and Sparkle is wife #2 then Mystia will be the declared wife. The little one will be too young to fully understand and for Honeymoon it will be another adjustment. Of course this setup could be interpreted as “special”.
In the Comics Kingdom version today, all the girls are very blonde—which drew a funny comment at that site (whatever online paper you use to read it). The problem here is that this confrontation-redux of Clone-Moon Maid and Sparkle/Gertie is too forced a device. Logically, Sparkle/Gertie shouldn’t have been on the Wheaton place any longer than it took for sheriff’s deputies to be notified, get there, and take her in for questioning to try to establish her real identity and for treatment of the amnesia and any other injuries.
Loving the art yet again. Mysta’s “masked” look in panel two reminds us of her special powers and unique origin. The three faces in the third panel show the women together in a Pressure situation. Mysta is in shadow but she is not alone.
I think I speculated a similar scenario before the Wheatons were introduced, thinking it might have been Montana Joe that Sparkle went off with. Of course, that was before the Sparkle Zap and a few other twists!
I especially like your observation that Mysta is, in fact, wife number one. The issue at hand is whether she is the “real deal” which, if she is, then her death certificate was an error and, as such, ought not to have ended their marriage.
tsull2121 and others, I fully agree that, if Mysta turns out to be a clone, regenerant, replicant, or any other kind of fake, then this story is, indeed, over. Sparkle regains her title, even if it is that of wife number two, but wife number one is once again not to be found.
(Yes, I consider clone, regenerant, and replicant to be fake)
The issue I’m seeking to explore is, what becomes of the legally wedded spouse who was mistakenly declared dead?
Of course, that comes from a very core belief of mine, which is that death does not end marriage!
tsull2121: Perhaps the most controversial thing I have to say is this: Continued calling Mysta a “creature” and “thing” may end up labeling you as a troll – whether that is your intention or not.
I almost feel as if you are “channeling” all the jealousy and rage that you feel Sparkle ought to be feeling now that the previously deceased wife appears to be not so deceased…
I love this development. It took me by surprise, though looking back now you could see it coming. This story is one big flight of fancy and I’m enjoying every panel of it.
My former name and Avatar was tracyfan92 my computer died and I lost my gocomics reg info etc. so now I’m back as me. I have received all my comics and the improvements to this strip are absolutely fabulous. Those days of slow, tedious, etc., etc. are hard to even remember now.
@Stagger LeeI would like to add a word or two about authentic Chicagolander Dennis Farina here. He was a Chicago cop for 18 years before his show biz successes. He went to the academy as a classmate and friend of former Chicago police superintendent Phil Cline and eventually made detective in the elite CIU (Central Investigations Unit). He used to kid about being a lousy marksman; maybe that’s why one of his TV shows ended by offing the bad guy with an atomic bomb (did Chester Gould ever top that?).He will be missed by many friends back here. RIP.Chicago Tribune coverage.
There is nothing wrong with arguing over whether or not Mysta is a clone, it is being used as a device to keep the reader coming back because they want to see the answer. A common device used in all literature. What I do see as a problem is the classification of Mysta as something other than a sentient being with rights. There is a name for someone who ostracizes a group of individuals because of one trait they have and try to make them out to be less than human, but animals without . The word isn’t Troll.I really am disturbed, and uncomfortable with the use of words like “It” and “Creature” to describe Mysta. It is almost like using the “N” word as far as I am concerned. And I may find myself tagging posts where those are used, for just the same reason. If Mysta was to have sex and get pregnant. What would the child be? An it? A creature? Is Honeymoon a creature since her mom wasn’t human? Forget about her being a clone, or a regenerated being, or even someone who is brainwashed. If she is sentient, and can interbreed, then she is not an “It”.
The continuity in these daily panels is awful. We get a snippet of a story and then it switches to something else and then it switches again to another plot, and none of them have been resolved. There is no mystery that takes weeks to unravel. No intricately plotted stories. When Tracy does shoot the bad guy, it’s all neatly tied up in a day. These stories are written for children…young children at that. If the present team cannot give us the Dick Tracy of Gould and Collins, they should hang up their hats. This strip has become such a mess, it would have been better to let it go out on top, rather than sink to this all time low.
ummmm…..do we have TWO amnesiacs now? Sorry, but MM doesn’t seem to recognize Sparkle, either…….face it, if she had, she would have had a look of astonishment….and also, niiiice catch on the marriage ceremony ending with “until death…..” Mikey. You sure put that one to rest, lol!

I just noticed something. Shouldn’t the caption in the first panel read, “Outside the old granary?”

Sparkle’s such a good person. I imagine Mysta’s already feeling like a heel for what she did to her. Looking forward to how this plays out!

I wonder if MM2 knows that Sparkle doesn’t recognise her

Fortunately for MM2, there’s always plenty of snails on a farm :p

It’s worth noting that Sparkle calls the location our farm. It seems that she considers herself a permanent resident on the property.

Nor should it.
Death was never meant to be a divorce decree!
