Gee, Tiffany without all the makeup and carefully coiffed hair is really rather attractive.

Tiffany, despite common opinion, is actually very beautiful. I hope this strip goes further to establish her personality, as well. She’s an interesting character.

I enjoy that same thing with my wife. She’s one that doesn’t go for makeup. People remark how naturally nice her complexion is. And she really has a natural smile, and a sunny and pleasant disposition- One of the first things people notice about her, is her smile! And I count it a blessing and a privilege to see her face, every day!! – And LOL, shaves a bit off of the bill on our shopping runs…

Will she be too nervous to kiss him when he leaves? Will he leave? What an interesting situation, they’re on the threshold of what? Don’t disappoint me, Greg, and deflate this great tension with some lame interruption. Let Gunther spill his coffee so both of them end up wearing robes.

Such a nice position on the couch to do homework together. However Tiff doesn’t seem as ready for actual battle as we thought. They really do belong together. Please somebody plant a kiss…

First time I’ve ever seen Tiffany look uncomfortable, if not downright embarrassed!

So they observed all this with the salamanders they caught? If not why would they need to trek through anything more dangerous than a library.

As others have noted, Tiffany is quite fetching without excessive makeup and helmet hair. And it is really rather sweet to see how Gunther’s reading from the notes makes them both uncomfortable (panel 2). Both have little or no real-life experience in such matters.

OK, the same reaction from BOTH of them – this is starting to get interesting… of course, it’ll take several more months/years to play out, but I like where I hope this is heading.

This is obviously a set up for Gunther and Tiff to confront their feelings… both about each other, and about dating/relationships in general. Otherwise, I’m trying to figure out why their notes would include a depiction of the mating ritual, when all they did, simply, was collect salamanders from a given wooded area, and only one that we know of! Did they actually witness a mating ritual? I could see having to report that, but otherwise…

Both are, obviously, a bit skiddish about the subject. Perhaps, neither were anticipating any such activity between the two, and all of the “innuendo” we’ve seen so far, is just “Greg being Greg.” trying to poke the audience, a bit. Now, let’s they see how they deal with the “discussion.”

Well, the salamanders would do that, sure. Unless they’re in neglected plastic bags, dying. I hope they let them loose in Tiff’s no-doubt lavish bathtub and put in some bugs for them to eat. Which, I admit, she would have to truly change to allow.

How to draw Tiff without any makeup: Leave off the eyelashes. That’s it, right? Near as I can tell!

Now can she go put some real clothes on?

This supports my statement that Tiffany is a tease. Yesterday she didn’t mind prancing around in her robe and showing her leg but now that its getting serious, she is scared. Maybe we will see the real, serious Tiffany blossom from this and become the person we all wish she would become.

Well…. this is very pleasant! I am a) very happy to see how Tiffany is being drawn without makeup by Greg. She is actually much nicer looking without all the makeup, and it is nice to see that being portrayed, and b) I am also very happy to see Tiffany showing the slight discomfort about the subject matter. It feels like a very REAL Tiffany is emerging in this arc and I like that a great deal. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++This is such a nice turn of events. To me, the current Tiffany is being shown to be much more like many of the leading ladies of films of the “Romantic Comedy” genre like Barbara Streisand in “The Owl and the Pussycat” or “The Way We Were”, or Marcia Mason in “The Goodbye Girl”, or for a more recent effort, Drew Barrymore in “Never Been Kissed”. Wonderful!

I have to say, I think this is the first time that I’ve seen Tiffany act…real..even if it is real uncomfortable. If this were another comic, there would super-sexy time going on in 3…2…-

But of course, Gunther will muck it up. It’s his superpower.

I had reached the point of avoiding this comic whenever Gunther (most cringe-worthy character) or Tiffany (most despicable character) shows up. Now that they could be a couple, I would find that interesting – if they can change each other. Otherwise, I would be interested only focusing on the couples and having no focus on the extras. Adding these two as a regular couple (if changed) would be a bonus.

really now, I expected to see Tiffany in “something comfortable” but a little more formal than a bathrobe…and presumably nothing else; and oh by the way, wouldn’t it be a hoot if Gunther, of all the characters, gets his cherry popped first? (and yes that includes Brad.)

Never ever ever has Tiffany appeared unkempt in this comic. This is a BIG change, as is Gunther’s apparel and grooming change.

birds and bees??? nope – salamanders are just as good for creating awkward moments of epic biological proportions.

Gunther has never been “oblivious” about male-female interactions; rather, he has merely been totally “incompetent” about how to handle them.

I’m liking the way Tiff’s eyes are wide open in this arc, unlike others where they’re half-closed. It makes her look more genuine… sort of like Luann.

Gunther spent some months in Peru with Rosa. Surely they had some (or a lot of) time alone together. Gunther might have left the US as a reluctant virgin. Rosa has shown herself to be assertive in going after something she wants. It wouldn’t surprise me if Gunther was no longer a virgin when he returned. Being a gentleman, he’d not talk about it.

Tiffany is an aggressive flirt but I’ve seen nothing to indicate that she is sexually active. Quite the opposite, in fact. I doubt that she’d be so aggressively needy were she getting regular sex.

(It’s just a comic strip, dummy! OK, I get that. However, it is an indication of the Evans’ genius that the characters have become “real” to a lot of us.)

What I’d love to see: Panel #1: They look into each others’ eyes. Panel #2: They kiss. Panel #3: Blackout.

I know; it ain’t gonna happen. But still…

It’s nice to see that they are both embarrassed.

Another Disney True-Life Adventure!

Tiffany: Let me put on some dance music while we finish the lab notes. Gunther: Well, OK I guess.

To give Tiff a break, in the strip shown above Gunther is saying “Misery loves company”, and Tiff is saying “Not company that’s even more miserable than you are already.” She needs to be cheered up, not mope along with Gunther. Besides, Gunther’s vertical red checked short and Tiffany’s diagonal green one would clash horribly!

In regards to his coffer, she should have asked if he needed a “top off”. Curious what his answer would have been then!

PREDICTION: Gunther will spill the coffee in his lap, have to take off his pants, use the cloth on the round stool to cover himself modestly. .Further Predictions:.Bernice will arrive and think the worst..Arc will end with no further resolution of Gunther’s relationship with Tiff. Another hanging arc. Another 10% of the readers here will give up on the series.

Here’s what won’t happen: Tiff won’t tell Gunther that Dirk was wayyy better.

I anticipate Bernice getting jealous after catching Gunther leaving Tiffany’s dorm room.

I sure hope something normal happens here. Constantly portraying Gunther as a complete neurotic has grown very wearisome. Tiffany is also now much more than a caricature – and that is a very nice change.

AtomivDog: why do you and Brdshtt write “Science” after someone mentions the Thomas Dolby song? *Watch the music video. “Science!” is said at several points in the video, usually by a scientist.“Science!” has become a catchphrase during the Science track programming at Dragon*Con.

That second panel is really great!

Out of all the main characters Tiffany is the only one who hasn’t had a real relationship, always just been the big tease. She thought she’d do more of the same on this field trip and despite her non-contribution to anything, she was treated decently. She thought she might do some more teasing but instead she’s feeling what it might be like to actually be attracted to someone and it is scaring her. In that area Gunther is far ahead of her in spite of her years of mocking him.

I like the way the comic is going, seems that Gunther is growing but also Tiffany seems more mature, great job developing this side of the characters.

Agreed, Art. For me, this is SUCH an unexpected story line, but I think it’s been a real hoot so far!

Here’s what WILL happen: a lot of frustrated readers…

The real life professor in the video was brought in by Thomas Dolby, just to repeat the refrain: “Science!”. It not only shows “the power of a word”, but the recognition of what is called in the biz a “catchy hook”….. that’s what sells songs (well, the commercial style ones, anyway)…

-the usual contingent here will berate Evans-I don’t consider myself part of the ‘usual contingent’ that objects to everything done by the cartoonist. But I can tell you that I was miffed…

At this point, I think they need each other.Maybe, not forever, but for right now.

Are they in college or junior high? The story says one thing yet they act like another. Why so afraid to actually face up to the facts of human sexuality in this strip, while right next door in 9 Chickweed Lane it is wantonly celebrated. We’ve never even seen Luann and that no-personality Aussie smooch…..let’s face facts, kids are not reading this strip. Adults over the age of 40 are.
