Well, Gunther, get some spine!
Argythree almost 9 years ago
-They have things in common, if only Bernice would give it a try
I kind of like the idea, too, but I think that Bernice and Gunther are both very set in their ways in different ways that might conflict. Gunther seems to see the world as still being like it was during the 1950s, when a man went to work and his wife stayed home and took care of him when he needed her to do that. Which partly explains, to me, why he was so angry about his mother dating.
Bernice, on the other hand, is set in believing strongly that everyone has to follow a rule book. Except sometimes she doesn’t, and then she feels like a failure….

This relationship stuff is too complicated for me. Since I have not had a successful track record in the real world, I refrain from comment.

I’ve heard it from a reputable source, that the backbone is connected to the skull bone, and the skull bone is connected to the jaw bone… – Gunther had a chance to talk to Bernice, and talking is usually what works, along with some doing. With a bit of confidence.
Dreamdeer almost 9 years ago
I don’t think Gunther’s a chauvinist. His mother had to have worked, if she raised Gunther all by herself.

Okay, the boys have learned that there needs to be some common base. Perhaps it is time for Gunther to learn that too much of the same thing can be boring. I think that Gunther and Tiffany have become comfortable together, but that there can still be a spark. They have things they can help each other with. Just sayin’…
Implausible said: Quill – not interested. I beg to differ. It seemed like Gunther wanted to go all the way, but Luann put on the breaks—after months of indicating that she was ready for more.
JohnFarson19 almost 9 years ago
Nah, go after Tiff. She will give you some spine.
JayBluE almost 9 years ago
But I also think that Gunther sometimes has a “math problem”: he tends to underestimate. Tiffany and Rosa seem to give him the things that would feed him with more confidence, and they are quite different from him, whereas Bernice employs a method similar to his. In other words, he has (and/or had) it good with two persons who could help “round him out”, but he’s going towards a person who’s more or less his “equal”, in certain regards. – Now, mind you, nothing wrong with liking Bernice, at all! But I can see her turning him down for the very same reason he would consider trying to ask her out. Plus, they would probably drive each other crazy, since they are both engaged in the same “metamorphosis struggle”, as one is a “Lilith” type, and the other is a “Frasier”…sort of. – That, and she likes “Star Head”, already.

Since when are Luann and Quill opposites? She was involved in the high school play. She used to sing and help with set design. She doesn’t hate theatre; just wants Quill to make her a priority. Funny how when another girl shows up he suddenly decides Luann and he have nothing in common. I had hoped Gunther would call him on it.
dlkrueger33 almost 9 years ago
So we switched over from Quill’s dilemma to talking about Gunther. Does that mean the whole thing is settled? Is it over between Quill and Luann? Seems like it…. I guess a new character will have to be introduced to be LuAnn’s new boyfriend. Can’t think of any current characters that fit the bill. How about bringing back Aaron Hill? That could be interesting.

Gunth and Tiff seem like an impossible match to me, despite any ephemeral infatuation which can often overcome shyness and antipathy both. After the hormones faded, there would be nothing on which to build a lasting relationship.

I don’t think either Tiffany or Bernice are good for him. He needs someone in the middle of those 2 extremes. Tiffany would get tired of him as he’s not a party boy and Bernice would drag him into a life of ennui. My thought is Quill and Luann split and Gunther hooks up with Luann.

Bernice, Heh? I dunno, Gunth. You Two are Waaaaaay too much Alike, and Your “Relationship” would be even MORE Boring than What Going on with Luann and Q-Ball, Here.
Frankly, I’d RATHER See You be Friends with Guiltless Benefits with Tiffany, at least til you reach your Senior Year. Then after You Graduate, You Marry a Repentant Luann.

Luann and Quill have nothing in common? I have to disagree with that. Remember when they were in the play together? Luann is very interested in theater performance and also has a facility for stage design, both of which she could still pursue even if she becomes a teacher. I’d say they have more in common than many couples. She’s just feeling insecure about Prudence, but that’s not unusual. I hope they make it!

Gunther has some self-insight for a kid his age. Yeah i have the right to call him a kid because my daughters are older then him.

New to the group but been reading Luann for a good while. I think Piro and Bernice would be a better couple than her and Gunth. I also think that Gunth needs to end up with Tiff. Both Tiff and Piro will shake up the worlds of their respective partners which is desperately needed.

@argy.bargy2“A belief that a ’woman’s place is in the home’ is not necessarily based on the idea that a woman is inferior. It is more or less based on the idea that there is kind of ‘one way’ of doing things,”..Good point.“It just isn’t done,” is the basis of many cultural norms..I know a man whose German wife explained the home is HER domain and him helping out is him interfering.(Actually, most of the rules which bother women were set and maintained by other women. We poor, helpless men are just blamed.)

So many have held out hope for Gunth & Tiffany. Gunth could help Tiffany deal with getting an education. Tiffany could give Gunth lessons on how to be shallow sometimes – opening up the social world to Gunth. And Tiff does have a body that would wake up the dead. They should do laundry together (and flirt). Like, “Gunth, do you have room for this (item)?”

Time for a Spinal Transplant!Maybe then Gunther will recognize that Tiffany is a much better potential girlfriend for him.IMO, Bernie is destined to become an officious busy-body spinster social worker or maybe a grumpy spinster librarian. She is not a happy person, and there is nothing to suggest she ever will be….

It seems that both Gunther and Tiffany acknowledge that there isn’t, and won’t be, a romantic relationship between them. This is one case where both characters seem to see the situation clearly, and I’d say correctly.-
TexanAtHeart almost 9 years ago
I like the Gunther Tiffany idea, too. She brings something manly/protective/generous out in him. And when she is with Gunther, Tiffany doesn’t need to put on her high school persona. She is allowed to evolve and grow up. Not because Gunther demands that she change, but because she feels safe enough to do so. Isn’t that what we really want for her.
I used to like Gunther/Bernice, but not now. It puts a bad taste in my mouth. She needs someone to bring good things out in her, too. I just don’t see that happening with these two. I see Gunther getting hurt by Bernice.
What did happen to Luann designing sets and producing the plays? What happened to Luann and Quill singing together? It looks to me like Luann is the one who needs to find her backbone. Stop whining and stand up, get involved. I would.

There are thousands of students at Moony Uni. Why do these two Pitt HS grads have to be paired with each other? They can both meet a bunch of new people and find much better matches for each of them!!!

I think Gunther’s “thoughts” of Bernice are more a practical decision than feeling of attraction. Rosa tried to get him to follow his heart and desires as opposed to making calculated plans. I think Gunther is moving back toward calculated planning. As for Bernice, she may seem nerdy and regimented on the outside but when it comes to boyfriends she likes a bit of mystery and seems drawn to people who are not like her. I’m hoping they don’t get together. What a drag if all former Pitt high characters just pair up with each other as opposed to making new friends

Area 52 is in Pitt, CA. It is where they are developing The Fuse, a multi-million dollar project that can be financed with $70K capital. If this project is successful, it will completely revolutionize economics as it is currently known.

I’m not a big fan of Gunther, and I’ve criticized him here on various occasions, but I think he has shown a spine in one significant decision.-He could have chosen to stay in the Peruvian mountain village just for the sake of being near Rosa. But he realized that if being in a relationship meant he had to spend his days picking up sticks in the boondocks, rather than pursuing any kind of education or career he was interested in, it wasn’t worth it to him. And if Rosa was the kind of person who wanted to devote herself to picking up sticks when she could have gone to Yale, she probably wasn’t the right kind of woman for Gunther.-So I think that Gunther has a little more spine than he gives himself credit for.
