Spookier and spookier. Is Frank just dreaming all this stuff? Will he wake up in the hospital? Did a brick conk him on the head during early renovation of the warehouse? Does Mr. Gray have any other clothes? Has Frank entered The Twilight Zone?

Mr. Gray is networked. Somebody working for him, or who owes him, or who wants reason to owe him, happened to be in the same building when Luann threw the necklace. Judging by how everything smooths out for him (including getting a liquor license without the legal recipient knowing) he must have more contacts than an optometrist’s shop.

Mr. Gray never changes. In the movie “A Beautiful Mind” Russell Crowe’s character John Nash has a college room mate who never existed except in John Nash’s mind. I don’t think a cartoon strip would go to that extent, but Frank might be dreaming.

Yeah, Quill made a crappy exit with Luann, remember it’s that guy gear kicking in. Quill is a good person but he can turn into a guy once in a awhile like any other man regardless of having manners in general or not. Mr. Gray on the other hand . . . we’ll find out soon enough :D

Mr. Gray is the acting manager and is aware of his surroundings and the employees and volunteers. He is not a man to be surprised.I like that Quill was responsible about how he left the Fuse. Maybe he is just too responsible for Luann.

So Luann doesn’t talk about her breakup to her mum – just to the woman who was the object of suspicion that led to the breakup? And as for Quill, I wish this was his last appearance, but I’m afraid it might not be.

Something tells me Mr. Gray is secretly controlling Prudence, (who is not really a Lesbian) and is engineering a lot more than meets the eye. He’s replaced Quill with Les, now is trying to get Pru hired. What is his agenda?

Either a psychic gnome, or an evil overlord directing the scene from another dimension. It’s like he planned every plot detail from outside the strip’s panels…

I am just too skeptical of this Mr. Grey.

Quill still hasn’t had his talk with Gunther about the break-up. He’ll be around a little longer. At least until he leaves for his spring break tour. And he has the semester to finish. Then he might well go back to his beloved NYC.

What will be interesting is Nancy’s reaction to Pru comforting Lu initially over the breakup and, potentially, her reaction to Pru’s “preferences…” And, of course, the move to go to NYC. ;-PPP

Quill’s a bit of a cold fish.

Well, we all know Mr. Gray is dating Gunther’s mom. And Quill is living with Gunther and his mom. So it’s not hard to understand how Mr. Gray got this information before anyone else. Quill tells Gunther, Gunther tells his mom, his mom tells Mr. Gray. Bada Boom, Bada Bing!

Quill is being sent to the transporter room, with the beam set at maximal dispersal inside the Evans’ dumpster.

BS – Yeah, a “psychic gnome” is not a flattering way to describe the person who has created a profitable business for you. Is ts Frank dealing with jealousy or what?

Someone tracked in some mud, or is that Mr. Gray becoming dust only to reappear as a rounded, little man in a gray suit? Elwood was magical, too. He could take Luann out to dinner a half world away and have her home by bedtime.

Ok I’m still fairly new and unaware about this place and posting. is there some place I go that shows me who’s replied to my comments or do I just have to scroll through the section and see if there’s any @’s for me. I’m trying to learn here. Also, still not impressed with Quill’s decision to just leave without finishing any projects he’s working on.

Wait til Nancy gets home expecting to find Lu in a puddle of tears, only to have her say: “I dumped the looser Mom, and I’m heading for NY and some adventure!” -Well, we can hope.

Maybe he could ask Mr. Gray where Jimmy Hoffa is buried.

I’m wondering why Frank and Nancy are arguing in the Christmas strip, above, with Prudence in between them. Waiting for it.

Frank stands alone. Others are already off, doing whatever they need to do….

So, since the Feb 8 strip, about 3 hours have passed. The pace of this jumbled mess is a bit out of control.

If Mr. Gray is so connected, he must know the Les is a pig and has been physically aggressive in the past.

With Quill starting a sentence with “I” l have to wonder if he was going to say, “I did not spend enough time with her.” From his expression though he might have been about to say that he grew in a different direction. I do not think that he yet understands that Luann also grew in a different direction; he will need to mature in a different way to understand that, too.

As someone on a student visa the law Quill has been lax about is the employment one. That is a different visa type, but i suspect they are overlapping in the 2D world.

Personally, since they grew apart and argued so much i think the strongest emotion both will feel is relief.

For Nancy Luann is still her little girl so she wants to protect her. Instead she will find a stronger individual who has decided to have some adventure in life. She will worry about the NY trip with Bern, but given her past worry that Q and L will be intimate she might feel some relief about that and about Luann not being a melting puddle of gelatin.

I think Mr. Gray has long known how people view him. He might even try to emphasize it. If people here watch NCIS remember Gibbs showing Tony the trick of having two phones and leaving one on in the office that has called his other phone so he can listen to the employees and periodicly that was seem like a shaman boss? That image adds power. I suspect that Mr. Gray has over compensated in work for a long time and has many such ways of doing so. I also suspect that with aging he wants to have a more personal dimension in his life, more family and more friends.

Les seems perhaps more clueless socially than Frank (Looking beyond the mean streak that his uncle hopes will go away.) so if he does not walk all over Frank too much, perhaps having someone more his own speed around might help him attain a role model eventually.

-Mr. Gray reminds me more and more of Gandalf the Grey, before he became a more powerful wizard. Gandalf didn’t know that Bilbo had the One Ring, in spite of all his wizardry. And Mr. Gray doesn’t know that his nephew is a psycho creep…

Am I the only one who likes Quill and Luann together???

What’s wrong with calling someone a gnome? I have a nephew who uses Gnome for a nickname. Yes, it connotes short, but in a positive way, because it also connotes homey yet magical, cute yet mysterious—all of which makes a great cover for Mr. Gray.

Dreamderr wroteI have seen this quite frequently, actually. If you’re not Hispanic or middle-Eastern, you can go quite a long way without anyone checking your immigration status. I’ve known French, Canadian, Swiss, and German people stay in this country for years past their visa’s permission, while people born in this country of Hispanic descent get stopped to prove their citizenship frequently (in one case weekly!)

-Yes, there was a friend of ours who was Hispanic whose family lived in AZ for hundreds of years, so certainly far less than Native Americans local to the region but very long predating the others who moved in later who often look down on them. Yet, they had to put up with people constantly assuming they were immigrants. Conquistadore history is well documented in the many Spanish state names, and certainly some extended beyond those states. For a while parts of the U.S. Southeast had English, French, and Spanish exploring at the same time and fighting each other. Some examples include in what are now the Carolinas and Tennessee.

Of course in too many locations there are those who treat Native Americans that way, too. Gads…

Nancy, Quill, Mr. Gray have all disappeared and the floor is dirty. Seems the only logical explanation is that Frank had hit is head and is having a “dream” in his coma. None of this has really happened in real life.

Okay, I had to actually sign in and comment on this just to get it out of my system:

I’m kind of in disbelief about all of this. I saw a comment on another strip that this seemed like such a huge waste of building up Quill’s character. Quill saying “you’ll be back” was COMPLETELY out of character for the Quill we came to know. I don’t understand his reaction at all.

If this is Quill’s last appearance….oh my, how he went out with a whimper. This doesn’t do their relationship any justice at all. I feel like months have been wasted on this. It’s not that I think they should stay together…but the breakup was very quick, as is his exit…and like I said…just doesn’t do this any justice.

Quill was leaving for a job anyway. Just because he didn’t tell Luann doesn’t mean he didn’t tell his current boss.

I shudder to think that Mr. Gray may try to hook up his nephew with Luann.

What we will learn:

1) Mr. Gray is a classy guy with a good heart.2) Luann will not jump into a relationship in the near future.3) Piro and Les are unrelated. But Piro has PTSD from war service4) Quill will move semi-permanents to NYC, with updates provided by Pru.5) Bernice will learn that a freshman psych major cannot help Piro. 6) Gunther will have a real date with Tiffany.7) At least one of the above is correct.

You are right, of course, but that’s what Frank may have been thinking. Besides, wouldn’t it have been effective if in the last panel you only saw Frank’s comment and not Frank? Our comments have been split: those who stick with the reality and wackos like me who speculate on Tales from the Dark Side.

More evidence that this is STILL Valentine’s Day:Quill is dressed exactly the same..If we see Nancy together with Luann, etc. tomorrow, we may have even clearer proof. (From clothing and from what is said.)

Even in the Luanniverse, Feb. 14—Valentine’s Day—still must be the date of this conversation with Mr Gray as shown above. Nancy has obviously not yet been home and thus has not seen Luann since the breakup.,Quite a few of the daily strips here can all reflect a single day or even one hour in the storyline — just as many pages in a novel can do so. .Time in the Luanniverse may flow slowly for us. .That is actually to be expected, so no need to complain.

Oh, and before anyone thinks that suggestion unlikely … as of today, we have had 24 days’ worth of February 14. Moving that far into the future, any date before March 29 is probable. Spring break starts as soon as March 5 for some colleges, with most starting March 12.

Mr. Frank works for his nephew Les who wants revenge on Gunther. Mr. Gray is dating Gunthers mom. Pru looks like she could be a cousin of Les. Plus she probably told Gray about break-up. It seems like its a major revenge scenario to me.

Can no one realize that six of “our days” spent looking at six daily strips do not force six days to take place in the storyline.!,This is not some odd feature of the Luanniverse, it is natural to any storytelling.

How could Mr. Grey have applied for a Liquor Licence without the DeGroots knowing about it.? .Does TJ know that Pru is being foisted on him? Or will the bar be unrelated to TJ’s place?

Last question…… What exactly is “The Fuse”?

I have a suggestion for Buckeye and everyone else who stumbles across the Luanniverse and our conversation on same.

Go back about a year or so in the GoComics archive (you can get there using the little arrows and calendar in the upper right corner right above each day’s strip) and read the strips up to today. Not only will you get answers to questions like “what is The Fuse” but you’ll get the context of the characters and settings to each other. Far better than the simplistic answers you’ll get from us.

BTW, for some reason that I have never known or understood, one cannot just jump in the archives by clicking the calendar above the current day’s strip. You need to go back one day and then access the calendar.
