What did Borenice expect? That they beg her to go? Dez gotta make some of her calming brownies to Calm Miss Boredom down. Tara is not going away any time soon and Borenice better accept that fact.
Bernice is losing her BFF. Either she start doing things with Luann or lose her. For years, all the did was lay on Luann’s bed and snark. Luann is clearly moved away from that. Bernice is still stuck there.
Bernice’s hand of cards just became harder to play. If she changes her mind on the tickets now, it’s obviously jealousy rather than looking out for Luann.
Okay, let’s see if Bern goes the dog-in-the-manger route, snapping up a pass for what she doesn’t want to attend just to make sure it doesn’t go to Tara who would enjoy it.
RA duties apparently involve carrying around stacks of books in front of you. A librarian would use a cart, but not Bernice. She is not into body art and she is not into ergonomics.
Bernice feels Tara is a ner-do-well and may want to keep Luann from going down the same path.I’m not sold that Tara was simply dumb in the thefts—really?
And Bernice can’t expect that Luann won’t find new friends in college, especially if she refuses to attend stuff with her. At this point it looks like Luann would be better off without her anyway.
Bernice just popped a vein over Luann asking Tara, a ‘known criminal’ in her mind. But no, she hasn’t lost her BFF. Not yet anyway. Luann is just following a new path for a while. Is Tara is sincere, and I think she is, she learned a lesson and her previous behavior won’t be repeated. She is a fun-loving person though.
It seems that in this strip, there are either really loose people or people who are too tightly wound-up. I know about Prudence being a balance of both, but is there anyone else who’s at neither extreme?
Bernice seriously needs to loosen up. College is all about self discovery and personal growth. She’s done the snarky prude bit for years, now open up your mind and have a little fun. Eat some real special brownies, make out with Pru, get a tattoo with Luann and live!
I honestly do not see why people want to pay big bucks to permanently scar their bodies with graffiti. It can’t be for individuality since, as most of you have noted, “everybody’s doing it.” // Just because everyone else is jumping off a cliff, so they say… // Like sandals, long hair, and bell bottoms in my generation, and as Frank Zappa once noted in a concert when someone requested “Brown Shoes,” he said, “Everybody in here is in a uniform, and don’t you forget it!” – from Burnt Weenie Sandwich, just before his rendition of Valerie.
I can’t think of a single image or phrase that I’d like to permanently imprint on my body. Except possibly Euler’s Identity (a mathematical equation), and even then it would have to be in a fairly hidden area.
So, it is seemingly likely that Luann will at least attempt to get some sort of tattoo art or a piercing or some such thing. If this does come to pass, I am hoping it is NOT a tattoo, but a simple piercing, as those can be more easily removed and allowed to heal back up.
The current “trendy” body “art” I see around on campus on a lot of students the past year or two have been ear ring adornments that are big rings inserted in the earlobe and are designed to stretch out the ear lobe to sometimes humongous proportions. I cannot imagine they are comfortable or enjoyable to have or maintain. One student who works at my University’s coffee shop has rings in that have created a nearly 2 inch diameter hole in her earlobe. I can only imagine how unpleasant the earlobes must look during those times where the adornment is not worn.
Tattoos are so commonplace on campus lately that unless they are “whole body” styles, they are not noticed much, and the same goes for most simple piercings.
Sukie…. I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. I have a few articles (in .pdf) that I could send to you if you like. I believe you have e-mail contact with Schrodinger’s Dog as do I. If he is willing to do so, and you approve, we could be in e-mail contact and I could send you copies of the articles I was able to locate.
JRankin1959 had the comment of the day, above: “Gravity is not a friend of tattoos!” I just have to give a shout out to this – perhaps the best advice yet to someone thinking of body graffiti!
Tattoos. “Skin Illustrations.” Hey remember that Movie, “The Illustrated Man,” where Rod Steiger has these skin illustrations that came to life and told Unpleasant stories? Rod was covered with these weird tats, except for this one blank spot on his back?
OMG!! It just occurs to me: Bernie will insist on going just to keep Tara from going with Luann and Dez. Two things will happen; Tara will be there anyway, and Bernie will get a tat, and possibly a nose ring. Bet!!
Quick translation of Panel 2 by Bernice: Please never forget for one second, or even less, that I am an RA and therefore really cannot be expected to mingle with commoners. Oh, and did I mention that I’m an RA?
Quick translation of Panel 3 by Bernice: Luann should now say ‘Oh, I’m so sorry Bernice, how could I forget that you’re an RA!’ There she goes now… Wait, what?! Wrong line, Luann! WRONG LINE!
Luann a little too overwhelmed (she’s under Tara’s spell of trying anything and everything) and Bern a little too underwhelmed. But tattoos are not reversible. what is a mod?
Mods can be a number of things – including transdermal skull implants, placing stainless balls under the skin, have threaded metal plugs installed in the skull so spikes can be screwed in, etc.
.
Since there is no current regulation of the procedures, it could be possible to have an ‘expert’ do it at Ann’s shindig at the Fuse, if that is indeed what would be happening there. On the upside this means that, since there are no regulations, when you get yours done by a drunk guy with a hammer and a Black and Decker power drill, you can rest assured that he’s technically telling the truth when he says he’s doing it right. No worries…

Permanent body art is a personal choice. The same choices shouldn’t apply to everyone. But I know what I do and don’t find attractive or tasteful.
I don’t think tats look very good on most guys. Exception might be if the guy’s a hunk and gets a moderate-sized drawing on his arm.
Tats can look better on women, but it depends on not overdoing it.
I’ve seen some small tats above the ankle that I thought looked cute and sexy.
But then I’ve seen a few women covered with tattoos almost everywhere. You couldn’t pay me to date or partner with a woman like that.

The more tattoos a female dealer has, the less time the male player will spend actually looking at his cards.
This is the connection. The crew working Eiffel’s event will be at the body art event.
Luann will overhear the word “Fuse” and to quote from The Goon Show, “This is where the story really starts.”
