It all started when men GAVE women the right to vote. We didn’t have to do it, you know; and this is how they show their appreciation. All I can say it, what a bunch of wimps men were back then.
@fivestring65 Google: archaic definition of men . From dictionary.com: “3. (archaic) a human being regardless of sex or age, considered as a representative of mankind; a person.” In this use “men” is equivalent to mankind.
I’ve worked at a place where women were increasingly promoted, from first-line supervision to E-level. I can’t say things were much different, and didn’t see any variation in management that wasn’t simply individual differences, good and bad.
A couple of decades ago Bill Russell, commenting on pressure to let women referee NBA games, said women should definitely be allowed to referee if only to show they’re just as bad at it as men.
I think that we are witnessing the last groans, gasps, and government domination by the WASP male dinosaur.
America is being dragged, kicking and screaming, into the 21st Century global society where women are recognized for their intelligence and leadership skills. The " Ole Boys Club " is dying out. Even the Trumpistas reluctantly realize that, like it or not, they have to recognize the power of the woman voter.
I have always maintained that in order to make a real change in governance, you have to start at the very grassroots level politically, and build the revolution from there. The religious right and teabaggers learned this, long ago. Fortunately, even though progressives tend to be slow learners, they are beginning to understand.
There will be a time, ( hopefully in my lifetime ), when women will have an equality of representation – if not majority – in both the House and the Senate. Don’t laugh, it is going to happen. Sooner, rather than later ! I also predict that the President of the United States in 2024 will be a woman – someone, as yet, unknown in political circles.
Thanks to the doctrine of affirmative action, the management of my workplace was gradually replace by women. Twenty years later, what has changed? Simply that the “old boys network” was replaced by the “old girls network.” What most people seem not to realize is that if you are not in the “in group” it doesn’t matter much who run things. And being the same ethnicity or gender of the “in group” is no guarantee that you’ll benefit.
And while we’re at it, stop using “person” all the time. The Latin word for “hand” is “mano”. We write with our hands, therefore "penMANship’ is perfectly acceptable – unless you use your feet, in which case it would be "penped (or pod) ship’. Lack of education is a sad, sad thing.
Golda Meir, Indira Gandhi, Margaret Thatcher … women politicians are every bit as bad as the men. Replace the politicians with humans, and see what happens …
I was once cursed out for using the word “manhole” cover rather than “personhole” cover. Such garbage as that makes a mockery of the real issue – that of the rights of women.
Should we refer to writing as “penpersonship?” On that note, is the word “person” not sexist? Perhaps we should refer to people as “perchildren.”
“Woman: “adult female human,” late Old English wimman, wiman (plural wimmen), literally “woman-man,” alteration of wifman (plural wifmen) “woman, female servant” (8c.), a compound of wif “woman” (see wife) + man".
I’d like to see a woman president, as long as she isn’t a Clinton…. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hi, is a Veteran (Honored on Veteran’s Day) and one of the most dedicated, fair and honest politicians I know. Plus, she has the “intestinal fortitude” to be POTUS. I would have said ‘balls,’ but, you know.

Heck, as an elementary school teacher I usually worked for women. Worked for me. However, ‘Virginia and elsewhere’ still elected a majority of men.

I hope they don’t prove to be as bad as what we have for men in or trying to get into government.
TexTech about 7 years ago
Agreed, Varnes. In truth, most of my best bosses have been women.

I’m fine with women taking over the government . . . as long as it’s not the women who voted for Donald Trump.

Great! Another highly vocal feminist, and with about as much brains as most of the rest of them.

Or a “Clintonist”. There’s a difference.

People who don´t know “men” can mean “people” need to redo school from base levels, and not be permitted out until they grow a brain.

Sadly, Danae shows signs of being a #MAGA-feminist.
Other #MAGA-feminists include the likes of Sarah Palin and Ann Coulter.
Scary!

Feminism, put simply, is that incredible thought that woman are human.
