Coming Soon 👀 At the beginning of April, you’ll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Cripes! I’ll have to start wearing safety glasses and leather gauntlets whenever I use hydrogen peroxide, yeast, or dish soap. Is this college chemistry or 5th grade science? Tiffany probably did that experiment 8 or 9 years ago.
No one is checking the temperature of the froth? Assuming the three ingredients are at room temperature, the froth, if the experiment was successful, should have been warmer. At least, that’s what Bill Nye, The Science Guy told me.
This is a college-level chemistry class? Seems to me it’s more like what gets taught in 7th grade. Of course this strip’s depiction of biology wasn’t much better, with its rigorous curriculum of “go out to the woods to collect bugs” and “draw a picture of a plant and label all the parts.”
Maybe they’ll show English class next and have the students learn the difference between “their” and “they’re.” Or maybe some math class featuring long division.
This is cute. But oh so juvenile!!! Maybe Tara can set these two lovebirds straight. Or—Tara may become interested in Jack HERSELF since Luann insisted he was just a friend. I do t think Tara bought that but it does sound like something H and K might do to throw a twist into this relationship.
The obvious double entendre here shows how different this strip is compared to when Luann was in grammar school, or high school. It shows in a humorous way something we have been teased about for weeks, but in the arc for the last almost two weeks. If Luann, a beautiful coed has a relationship with a handsome, decent, hunk of a college boy, what is insinuated with exploding beaker “heat” and Tara’s comment (not sure she really would have been meant to be on the lab team here) then intimacy might happen with this result. Gasp!!! I still go back to what I have been saying; where is this going? I happen to think Jack and Luann might be the next romance in her Luannverse life. Or just a friendship. I go for romantic eventually, but who knows for sure?
Dear Luann: Don’t act like a dork in the chemistry lab unless you want to get kicked out. When I made messes or broke equipment in the lab due to being clumsy, I didn’t make childish jokes about it.
If you’re going to joke about causing lab accidents, at least make it funny. Like the time I pulled on gloves for a dissection and quoted Dr. Nick Riviera—“These gloves came free with my toilet brush!”
You Know? This bunch kinda makes an interesting “Threesome.” And THAT might be the wave of the future for this Strip. No more “pairing off.” Everything will be done in “threes.” One character keeps one person in their life for “Fun” and the other person for “Stability.”
1) Jack with Tara and Luann.
Or
2) Jack with Tiffany and Luann.
3) Crystal with Knute and Piro.
4) Tiffany with Some Guy, ANY Guy who’s Really, Really BAD for Her and Gunther.
Not only is this “experiment” at grade-school level, so is the “humor”. Will the strip ever start treating these people as actual young adults, rather than as 19 year-old tenth-graders?
There are obvious problems with how this represents a chemistry lab teaching experience… they have been mentioned quite abundantly in previous comments (not college level, safety, etc). But, for me that are minor issues of little consequence at the moment.
In terms of my feelings about today story, I see some good and some less good aspects (often in the same aspect):
1. I like and enjoy the three of them interacting and joking together, but I find the “intensity” of their joking around to be a bit over the top. Joking is fine, but, most students (at least in my lab courses) are more quiet about it.
2. I appreciate the humor of the “innuendo” implied in their joking around, but at the same time as a story plot of whether Luann “likes” Jack… it is becoming too repetitive for my tastes. It seems we are stuck like a record in a damaged groove at this point…. replaying the same premise over and over.
I hope there is some sort of tangible progression tomorrow.
This is definitely the type of college chemistry lab “experiment” that would be written by someone who never took a college chemistry lab. How much is the tuition at this diploma mill, anyway? They’re paying too much, if all they learn how to do is the sorts of “experiments” that wouldn’t be worth doing for a sixth-grade science fair. Will they now put a mound of paper mache’ over it and claim that they have demonstrated how volcanoes function?
Lol in college you do get more freedom to do the experiment on your own, so that’s not unusual. However, the fact that they were so loud about it, HA! My professor would of told us to knock it off. With Luann and Jack, frankly I’m quite satisfied with their current relationship. Their fun buddies and I like it. However, if about several months or a year later they decide to “experiment” then I’m open to it.
If the purpose of this trivial “experiment” was to investigate chemical heat, why are they not measuring the temperature, or something? They’re just watching it foam over while making juvenile comments. Even Mr. Fogarty would have been embarrassed to pass this off as “science”.
All I can say in summary that the obvious reference to a phallus and male coital satisfaction is so obvious, but no one has called it out as being obvious. Rather everyone seems obsessed on how this cannot be a college level chemistry experience, and how juvenile these young adults seem. Went right over people’s heads. Unbelievable!!??
In this trip down comment lane, I noticed someone thought Luann and Jack were mismatched. Maybe so, but Luann saw Jack all naked in the drawing class and it wasn’t a cold day, so mesmerized might be a better choice of words.

Well let’s see now:
1) Not following instructions: (Tara doesn’t have a partner and Three’s a Crowd)
2) Not Concentrating on assigned tasks.
3) Loud blusterous talking.
4) Horse-Play.
5) Not Wearing rubber gloves while handling chemicals.
Yep. That’s enough to get all three a failing grade for today’s work. Nice going “love-birds.”
At this rate, Gunther may end up “tutoring” these three, as well as Tiffany……, :)

Why am I sensing that about the time Luann eyes Jack as date material, he will bring his “cousin” Aaron Hill to meet her.
