Maybe she just disconnected HIM because he was educated poorly and unable to fully understand the pluses and minuses of technological advancement and how to put them into perspective.
The Music Group, “Tears for Fears” has a song, “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.”
Not this boy. I’m smart enough to know that I don’t need to rule the world. I just have to keep the world from ruling me. It makes things a lot simpler.
Given recent stories about the inherent dangers in AI, this one isn’t that unlikely. All it would take is a half dozen lines of code and, of course, the idiot fingers working on the ‘I wonder what would happen if I . . . Oops!’ idea.
I don’t and won’t EVER have anything Alexa or any AI in my home. I like my privacy. Nothing in the world can make me want that crap either! I’m human and can do anything I want myself.
Dad, of course, is coming ‘home’ from his solar/wind powered fishin’ shack, which he doesn’t tell the rest about. Far as he’s concerned, it’s all working to plan.

The future historical illumines the present as a cautionary tale regarding the intervening past. Twilight Zone was rather good at that.

No power grid? Amazon would never make a device that could put them out of business.

I guess Alexa got sick and tired of all the stupid things she had to put up with from her people, and took this excuse to end it all.

Those are the post-apocalyptic 1%ers – the haves – there aren’t many caves to go around, and they have functional tools and weapons.
I’ve got a spear and a fishing pole – so I’m prepared for the end. OK, I better start digging that cave!

Good idea, losing the power grid. It’d save the planet’s eco system (of which ‘human’ should NOT be a part thereof).
