Yep, Leslie’s “Date Pic” profile is a hoot.

How are they doing that with their arms in the final panel?

“classy gent”…“cool guy”? Amazing how much BS you can get away with in these profiles…

A friend of mine had a bit too much to drink one night and accidentally clicked on the wrong place, and then started filling out the forms that she thought was for something else, and wound up signed up for a dating service. In the morning she erased all personal data and tried to figure out how to unsubscribe, but even with zero information and no photo, she got inundated with date requests from troglodytes who wanted to try their luck with any female hominid available, before she finally figured out how to extricate herself.

Oh no. Don’t you dare. Don’t play the “Will Gunther and LuAnn hook up?” angle.

And thus did the embrace begin? Look in tomarrow kids and see how things develop! OMG, the suspense!

You could write just about anything on these sites. My father did meet her girlfriend of 18 years on a dating site. However, once her ex-husband died without changing his will, she inherited their old home and poof, she was gone. Back to her home sans the abusive ex-husband. And she was a little nutty – had so many medical issues. I never understood why my father stayed with her so long except perhaps he was lonely. However, I really question anyone who falls for Les’ cheesy comments. Cheesy comments = cheesy human. In Les’s case, cheesy comments = sleazy human. Anyone could see that from Mars.

So much for those who were lecturing Luann yesterday about making things worse for Gunther by showing him Les’s profile online…

And people want Bland Tiffany with Gunther….. this proof that they are better match

First the innocent little happy hug between friends, then the sudden awareness of the touching, the feels-sort-of-nice touching, and finally the spontaneous combustion. Now, that coat comes off. Fast. Wildly.

Hey – This is the only time I’ve seen Gunther actually laugh. However the last frame seems like a bad fit – way too much of a response to Luann’s rather ordinary comment. And BTW – Gunther should be very happy to get some first dates.

There are actually women in the VAST Luanniverse that Fall for this Garbage? Enough give Scumbag Les at least a first date? I’m DYING to see what they look like.

But Gunther, after you stop laughing tomorrow and realize that Les at least is getting dates (as many here are SURE to point out) just remember, Les is going for quantity over quality. Just cutting a “notch in his belt” as We used to say back n the old days when dinosaurs ruled the Earth.

Gunther, you actually process everything you need to get and keep a young woman. (Les too, but don’t tell him).

Do you want know what the secret is? The secret is posted all around town for all to see, but is taken for granted, often with disastrous results. Okay here’s what you do. Grab Luann, and drive to the nearest railroad crossing. Do you see what written on the “Cross Bucs?” (The “X”) It says: STOP, LOOK, AND LISTEN THAT, what you should do whenever meet a young lady. You Stop, You, Look. And after you break the ice (Which will be the difficult part for YOU) you LISTEN! Hang on her every word with your undivided attention. It was working for Les with Tiffany during that Soul Destorying Berger Family Dinner. It was working for YOU when you were comforting Tiffany, only YOU didn’t follow through, you DOLT! LISTEN and keep your Big Mouth Shut!! Now go and take Luann to a nice restaurant and treat her to a nice dinner and let HER do the talking! Then plant one of your patented “show stopping kisses” on her and show Jack what he’s been missing so far! ;) STOP, LOOK, AND LISTEN! It WORKS! It helps prevent you from being run over by a freight train, too!

Oh, there’s another term you need to be acquainted with: CLOSE COVER BEFORE STRIKING!

OK Luann, so where’s your ad? And don’t give us the same BS that you gave Gunther yesterday about you only being on there to troll other guys ads.

Seems to me like Luann is being a hypocrite here. I can imagine her ad being something along the likes of level headed intelligent girl working her way through college when in reality she’s still the same flake who can’t make up her mind , won’t grow up and spends most of her time day dreaming.

Bring back Jack NOW! I love that Gunth and Luann have been friends forever but ‘friend zone’ is where their relationship need to stay!

Disagree with all the negative comments above about the false or made up nature of the laughing – that’s a genuinely hilarious response by the two good friends at bully Les’ pretended “classy” and “cool” self-appraisal in the dating site ad – as they say, Luann and Gunther are simpatico, at least when it comes to their opinion of Les…

Illuminaire hit the bullseye earlier! Yeah! Great idea. Come on Greg. Let us see Luann’s profile. How many hits did she get? Does Jack know about it? Bernice? Brother Brad? WOW. That could start an arc that could rival Tiff and Ann “Eyefull!” Does Toni have a profile? You could go on and on…

Well, at least Gunthie isn’t having a moody little pity party anymore. I hope he and Luann DO NOT decide to play a trick on Les by creating a fake profile. That’s really beneath both of them.

What I would like to see is Luann fix Gunth up with Tara. If anyone could break him out of the buttoned-down box hes got himself in it’s her. A few dates with the redhead, and WHOA……mama won’t recognize her little Gunthie.

Besides, that would REALLY get to Les, because when he tried to hit on Tara he got nowhere. :D

Not much else to say.

Forget Les. I want the story to shift to the accidental passion ignited between these two characters. Let’s see if they can discover the unexpected feelings that have laid dormant for so many years.

Oh dear! I sense an intimate moment coming on. Not sure how I feel about that since I am a pretty big Jack fan. But if the sparks fly between those two then that’s a good thing. Just hoping it’s mutual!!! I’d hate to see the G. Man put his feelings on the line and not have them returned by Luann. After all I like Gunther too!!! I just always thought that mystery girl Mordy’s always talking about would work better for him. Of course SHES not here and Luann is…….hope they both make some positive discoveries about each other.

First dates? Les has a good marketing approach, but in marketing the issue is the 4 P’s, product being the first P. If the product is not what is promoted, another P, then it will fail. The price is too high, the 3rd P, for continued demand, and the final P, Place, does not happen because there is no second date to go on. Kind of cool, eh?! (lol). Actually the message that Les leaves is pretty generic to me, nothing that is funny in and of itself, but when the context is considered, that is, what Gunther and Luann know about Les, then it is funny. The third piece is what, if anything they are sharing with this little vignette. What will be an outcome? Those are two imponderables that remain to be seen. Ah the pot boils faster.

I would never go on a date with someone who thinks all women want the same thing. Les should describe himself and the women who are attracted to those qualities would have a good time with him. He was pleasant when he thought he was on a date with Pru, so he can be nice if he wants to.

Perhaps a sign of physical affection between Gunther and Luann?

“Folks!” With the exception of One or Two Fans here, everybody is missing the Point! Today, is the FIRST time that Gunther has been HAPPY in the Gulag since he’s moved in! And as Ken pointed out He’s LAUGHING!! I’ve been reading this Strip since the mid 1990’s and I cannot remember if I’ve EVER seen Gunny LAUGH.

He’s LAUGHING People! He’s Not Sullen, Or Moody, Or Angry, Or Whiny, Or Showing off New Towels. He’s ENJOYING Himself! And “Why?” Because of that Young Lady he’s hanging on to in Panel Four, that’s “WHY!”

No young woman has ever made Gunther laugh before. Not Tiffany, Not Bernice, not even your precious Rosa. It was Luann, Gunny’s long time friend and the one girl that Gunther’s ever been truly comfortable with, that broke the ice! Sorry “Jack Fan’s,” but I think Gunther’s found his real “Soul Mate.” A few of Us have always suspected that was true, but were always drowned out in a chorus of “That Ship Has Sailed!”

All of this might be short lived, but Me? I;m going to enjoy this moment……,

Mordock——in a reply to a reply to a reply somewhere above (I don’t have time to go look) you asked why Tara would be interested in Gunth. Yes?

In one of your invectives against Jack, you said he had to study in order to pass a test (thereby making him an object of derision and scorn) whereas Gunthie could pass the test in his sleep. So let’s see: Tara missed half the classes, missed the study session and still aced the test. So apparently she can pass tests in her sleep too!

So there ya go! She and Gunthie have something in common! :D

Not easy for Gunther to place a personal ad. On his own, Gunther might write something like, “Male college student with high grades and very good morals can also make dresses and costumes. Looking for nice, attractive female that doesn’t date other guys.” If he’s going to place a personal ad, Gunther should enlist Luann’s help.

Apologies if this has already been noted: The WashingtonPost has a column “Ask Amy” and by coincidence the leading letter “Ask Amy: Dating app connection kills romance.” https://tinyurl.com/y9ll799l . Unless you have a subscription, you might not be able to access it. Amy replied: Well, romance is officially dead. And you two killed it.

So…Les is out working an actual job and dating. And Luann and Gunther are laughing about this? I can see the appeal of dating Les, but dating Luann or Gunther just seems like putting yourself out there to date a critic. Gross.

I don’t think that gets him first dates either.

No, I don’t want Luann and Gunther to get together. When they break up (and yes, they will), they couldn’t go back to being friends.

So, a couple of hours will pass, Luann will have had a really good time, will go home…and realize she never got around to seeing his place at all.

Not that that was ever the point.

I think Gunther is feeling incredible relief and validation by learning that LuAnn shares his opinion of Les. He didn’t know that.

After contemplating further, I guess I do have some comments to add today:

The “feel” I am getting from today is that there is a potential this may lead into a stereotypical “falling into a romantic interlude” sort of situation. The shared laughter of Luann and Gunther is bringing them physically and emotionally closer at the moment. And, many cheesy romance comedies use this same scenario as a basic set-up.

However, I really would rather not see Gunther and Luann hook up….. I much more hope that in the vast Luanniverse that there is another female who does not yet know Gunther… and is not going to saddle him with his past baggage of high school behavior (and hell, sadly his early college behavior too). Gunther needs a fresh face…. one that he can more easily try to be the person he wants to be.

If he would spend some more time thinking instead of just reacting… he could come to the realization that HE can only change himself (never others) and that if wants more of a social life he has to figure out how (or practice how) to do that. And, I think he is smart enough to know that it would be easier for him to “practice” who he wants to be on people who do not have specific past history associations with his previous behavior.

For all of Gunther’s “smarts”, he is not really much for introspection is he? Bernice, our other “bookish” character far surpasses Gunther on being introspective….. and we damn well have seen only very limited introspection from her. :)

I certainly hope G&K don’t start a romance between Gunther and Luann. Luann is playing the role of his therapist. She’s having to bolster him up all the time. That gets old fast in a romantic relationship. If Gunther ever has a good romantic relationship with anyone, he’s going to have to work on himself A LOT.

They’re not exactly burning up the romance scene either.

Isn’t getting “first dates” the whole point of a dating app? (You wouldn’t need it for getting subsequent dates.) I bet it works a whole lot better than sending around photos of your new kitchen towels! And maybe Les actually enjoys going out with a lot of different women, instead of looking for a committed relationship?

Countdown to them realizing Les is standing behind them as he says, “I forgot my keys” in 5-4-3….

It’s so good to see Gunther and Luann laughing together like that. Specially Gunther. He probably wasn’t so happy since he move with Les or even before. Luann is an awesome friend!

My youngest son says all his friends belong to those dating sites and are always trying to get him to join one. He says he prefers to get his dates “the old fashioned way”—by meeting them and asking them out.

Some people get impressed by that kind of brashness. Gives them a big laugh too. Maybe there is more to him than that.

Let me guess. Tomorrow’s strip will have them kissing.

“Hey ladies! I’m Gunther Berger, a classy gent who knows what women want, so long as they’re all like my Mom, which in a perfect world they all would be. You’re looking for an uneventful date with a prudish guy who will respect and protect you! So let’s meet and make dresses together!”

Hmm. I have not noticed anything from Schrodinger’s Dog here today. That is not typical. Hopefully he is just busy with something today and will be on later or tomorrow.

my hope in all of this is not for any romantic relationship between these two but that Gunther realizes he needs to laugh a little more in life and not take everything (himself too) so rigidly serious, that relationships work a lot better when you are having fun and can laugh at life.

Luann and Gunther’s dismissal of Les’s tactics reminds me of an old Army saying: if a plan is stupid, but it works… it isn’t stupid.

Gunther may consider it “drivel” but Les is going on dates and he isn’t.

It’s nice to see these kids having a moment of fun in their otherwise dull and dreary lives. Even more so, that it’s at the expense of Leslie Knox….
