My dearly departed aunt June was a crazy cat lady. She lived in a rent controlled apartment in San Francisco and it was above her garage. The garage was the litter box. She paid someone to shovel it out every two weeks (which wasn’t enough if you ask me). She had cases of baking soda on the floor and that helped a lot but boy you knew you were in a cat lady’s house when you were there. She was my favorite relative and she passed away in 1984. Still miss her.
Go for it! I used to make some nice pocket change working on motorcycles in my garage. I charged 2/3 of what shops on the outside charged and it was good money. I was good at it too. My knee and back won’t let me stoop down now but after reading this maybe I’ll go to Harbor Freight and get a lift. I did like it.
My sister’s best friend was a ‘crazy cat lady’ very nice person, until you visited her home. 13 cats the time I visited her in a small 1200 sq ft home. You could smell the liter half a block away. Going inside was an exercise in will power the stench was so bad. The cats were plastered against the screens of her open windows, I personally figured the poor things were actually desperate for clean air.
. . . if, I was going into the pet care system, I would hire responsible young people to help care for this mob! One of their duties would be to take care of the litter boxes, a couple of times a day, as well as feed and play with the pets or whatever needs to be considered.
@Gavin Aung Than, the artist, was only trying to make his point, which I believe that if you enjoy doing something, then you might be able to make a career from it? Definitely, something to think about, when you are thinking about your future?
I think that Gavin really enjoyed drawing ALL these kitty cats and their different expressions! I sincerely appreciate his talent and art! :)
From today’s (26 Sep 2019) “Zen Pencils” FB page: “I’ve got some amazing news to share. SUPER SIDEKICKS, the current middle grade graphic novel series I’m working on, will be published in the US, UK and Norway next year! Can’t wait for my little Aussie superhero team to find a wider audience!!”
This probably explains the long hiatus in the on-line “Zen Pencils” comic.
I do feral cat rescue. It is not this easy. It is not profitable. And her home/hotel would NOT look like this. And there are luxury cat hotels, btw. You can google them to see how they actually look.
A response from Gavin on the Zen Pencils FB page today (21 Nov 2020), about the lack of any new Zen Pencils:
“Yes…a few factors in making the decision [to stop drawing Zen Pencils]. Namely, it was just time to move on and try something new. I felt I would just be repeating myself – I’m so proud of the archives. Also financially it was becoming a struggle with two kids now!”
OK, this one post has not changed in a year and a half. And Gocomics still pays them? Where can I get a job like this? It is almost as bad as “The Comic That Has An Ending Every Day”. That one has not changed in ten years !!
A few years ago, I drove my ex to visit her friend up North. When we arrived we couldn’t help but notice that she had a pyramid shaped pile (3 to 4 ft high) of cat litter in her front yard that she had accumulated instead of putting it in her garbage!!! There was a slight breeze that day, and you couldn’t mistake the odor for anything else. The visit was short, and we got the hell out of there!!! Ugh!!!

Even though that looks like an ideal job, I wouldn’t want to be the one who has to clean out the litterboxes!!! The smell!!!!
