In other words, you donā€™t feel 40, John. Thatā€™s great because you will stay young longer.

And Iā€™m too young to be 60. But the calendar begs to differ. I was born in 1959 and itā€™s 2019. Like it or not, that does add up to 60. Darn it.

Yeah, 40 is a bummer until you look back at it from 50. Those were the good old days when your 60. Just concentrate on being here, now. You will feel better.

I retired 6 years ago and it seems like yesterday. I donā€™t remember how I managed to get anything done working 60 hours a week. The best thing is not having to get up at 5:30 and get to work in the dark. I can literally slow down and smell the roses and am not in a hurry to hang up on my friends when they call. The worst thing is that I still donā€™t like to clean house.

When my husband turned 30, he became incredibly depressed. (I blame his mother, who actually got herself number ā€œ29ā€ candles to put on her cake every yearā€¦we wonā€™t discuss the year when my husband switched the numbers around.) I called everyone we knew and told them to just forget that he had a birthday that yearā€¦but if you felt so compelled to acknowledge itā€¦be tactful. Most people respected that, but one person got him a button that said, ā€œTease me about my age and Iā€™ll hit you with my cane.ā€ At the time, he had a minor back injury and needed a cane. He crushed that button with one handā€¦crumpled it like a piece of paper. However, when he turned 40, he was never happier! We spent the day with friends at a local amusement park and had a wonderful day.

69, sharp and active. Aging is not a choice, but getting old is a choice. And remember that aging is a privilege denied to many. If you are not getting older, that means you are dead. I prefer to avoid that for as long as I can!

Forty isnā€™t bad except for one thing. Once you hit forty, they start counting in dog years. At least thatā€™s how it feels. Since I hit forty, I feel like two or three years have past, but somehow my driverā€™s license says Iā€™m 59.

Turning 40 was no big deal for me, but 50 seemed to be a catalyst birthday, ā€“ the onset of male menopause, I guess.

Now that Iā€™m approaching ā€“ without any trepidation or remorse ā€“ the tender age of 75, I wonder what all the fuss and drama was about.

I was OK with 40. But 30 killed me! At 30 I felt I was officially not young anymore. Now it seems like I was still a baby.

    Lynnā€™s Comments:

When I turned 40, it was no biggie. I rather liked being 40; I was doing some good work, my kids were becoming independent and my wrinkles werenā€™t getting me down. I think men ā€œcrestā€ earlier when it comes to aging. This surprised me.

Turning 40 didnā€™t bother me and neither did 50 ā€“ guess I havenā€™t figured out how to care about my age. Still I have to laugh as I know a number of people who are in their 70ā€™s and more, they still call me young. Not sure when I get to claim the title of ā€œoldā€, I would have thought I should get some sort of claim on it after I turned 50 but I guess not.
