It’s summer, there are nothing but reruns on tv.

I’d like to imagine Dad is watching TV at this moment.

with people having iPads these days that if the wifi signal is poor, they’d be missing good YouTube videos

You are missing all of the summer short series specials that nobody will ever see again.

That sunset is basically a rerun.

At least nowadays we have DVR.

Isn’t the second time you watch a beautiful sunrise a rerun?

Sights like this are best if, after enjoying them, you can at least go back to a cabin with real beds in it.

I wish this picture was in colour.

And when you are old and gray, the summer you are having right now is the one you will miss, not the re-run.

They’re all on demand Calvin. There are some really good cable shows released in the summer anymore. Claws, Pose, Yellowstone, Shooter…

I remember 60 y ago a cartoon of a guy in his easy chair watching TV. On the screen was this sunset picture!!! (w/o Calvin & Hobbes).

This strip is refrigerator worthy.

The fireplace channel is doing its Christmas preview!

This strip answers the question of what the previous generation did before smart phones and tablets. They still had their faces buried in a screen.

I was with friends who had a camper trailer. We were in FL and I was sitting on the tailgate of the pickup watching a fantastic light show of lightning way off in the distance. I’ve never seen something so impressive. My friend comes out and asks if I want to come in and watch Judge Wapner!! He was mystified as to why I didn’t.

On another note, does anyone think that Hobbs is drawn a little strange today? His face looks human.

Personally, ‘Calvin’, I would much rather be where you are, with a fishing pole in my hands and a couple of loons serenading one another in the distance ! ! ! !

The average American watches tv over 4 hours a day. What a waste, what a damn shame. Somebody is watching 8 hours to make up for me.

Sort of sad, but when you don’t want something you don’t appreciate it no matter how grand it is.

What is wrong with me? I drive for hours and many miles just to have a cup of coffee in my hand and watch this view. When I could be watching this on TV?

For all he knows, the TV could be stolen again like it was during the last vacation.

I need to find this view somewhere in real life.

How I used to be in my childhood. Thankful for my growth.

And a sunrise NEVER has reruns. It’s different every time.

Isn’t every sunrise/sunset a rerun? It happened before and hopefully will happen again! TV could have something new. [Just kidding ;-) ]

I don’t get this arc, I understand not wanting to go fishing but Calvin always loved being out doors, the last comic is of him and Hobbs going off to “explore” no way he wants to be watching TV.

During summer the networks do have new dramas which we watch, and game shows we do not watch. For now one network is off the air due to stalled talks of NBC. Money agreement is off.

Luckily, Calvin never owned a smart phone.

At his age now, those shows will be on MeTv or Antenna Tv.

I’d like to see a colorized version of that comic…..would be frame worthy.

Give him a push, Hobbes! Calvin needs an attitude adjustment.

It has to be sunset. No way Calvin got up early for sunrise.

You are missing some extraordinary shows, missing, missing, missing. They will be rerun when you’re past the age of reason, in 50 years.

Not for the past 25 years it hasn’t. Some shows ind their runs for the year, others start. Some have half year breaks.

this is why most networks just air reruns in the summer

For most of the 80’s and half the 90’s I worked second shift, never got to watch any prime time TV during that period. Probably did not miss much.

We’ve taken to watching the 4th of July fireworks on the boob tube because it’s an hour’s drive (if there weren’t too much traffic) to where the nearest good show is; and there is too much traffic. And too many people. And too much nasty smoke and noise. On the other hand, we can walk out the door into something that’s at least 50% as awesome as this ’toon (and in color!)… and we relocated here on purpose.

Now I’d just like to take the opportunity to point out to all the geezers who gripe about iPads and such ruining life for “kids today” that this strip is 30 years old ! Nothing much changes, except maybe the technology that old people grouse about. (See, you folks all grew up with television, so you can laugh at all the doomsday pronouncements made by your elders regarding the evils of TV. Just like today’s kids laugh at you.)

A more up to date cartoon would have Calvin reading a smartphone.

No dear you are not! The scenic beauty in front of you is much more valuable than the dumb reruns on the idiot box.
