This is the second time Bernice has unilaterally declared an end to their adventure. I’m guessing this pronouncement won’t have any more effect than the last one, though. Luann is showing more resilience than I’d have expected of her, and Dez is – well – I’ve never needed to use “indefatigable” before, but it fits!
Bernice. Lock the car doors. Start car. Put car in drive. Leave “Nature Lovers,” here. Go home! And note: The fact that ”Naturalist” Dez, wants to eat CANNED food, as opposed to nuts and berries, reveals her HYPOCRISY.
Besides. It time YOU met Bets. Be SURE the batteries are FULLY charged in your “recorder.” ;)
Surprise, surprise! Luann ain’t scared of wild animals! You know they are rodents, don’t ya, Luann? Back during my college days, I lived in an old dorm which had windows that opened all way open so I put my desk right at the window for the view especially the famous D.C. cherry tree blossoms that are all over the campus that blossom gorgeous pink flowers every spring. I got visitors almost everyday from the occupants of those trees. They came up right to my window and sat on my sill as if saying, “Ya got some nuts for me?” A very few brave ones would lightning-fast snatch popcorn bag or chip bag off my desk. So we see them scattered on the campus grounds.
AND that is the famous western sunset! I see this everyday here in Phoenix. Never get tired of it. I rarely ever saw it up in Oregon or in D.C. Oregon thanks to their tall trees and D.C. to their skyscrapers. Phoenix is flat and the mountain ranges are visible miles away so perfect setting for the daily sunset Sheriff Morcedai illustrated oh-so-accurately here.
Interestingly (somewhat), last Friday depicted Bernie sitting in the back seat of the car ready to bail on the trip. We see almost the same exact thing today. Will we see that again next Friday?
Bernice needs to come down off of her high horse. I’m getting tired of her superiority attitude. She needs to be knocked down a peg or ten, and to experience humility, and to be humbled.
The Realist has confused sanity with boringness, lack of empathy and some serious problems in understand: beauty, humanity and life. At least Luann has open her mind and now she’s away from tablets and smartphones. Let’s hope Bernice will do the same next week (yes, i believe in miracles). Also, the teamwork between Greg and the Sheriff in panel 2 is amazing♡
Went camping and caught a big pike, best fish I ever caught. The camphor stove wouldn’t stay lit. I had sushimi. I was bound and determined to eat that fish. It was good.
That sunset makes up for a lot of what’s happened on this camping trip. If only the “realist” would get her nose off of her phone for another couples of minutes.
It’s a CAMPING TRIP Bernice – sleeping in a tent or under the stars – dealing with bugs and/ or small animals – why did you even go along with it if all you are going to do is to complain?
Back in the Stone Age when I was a lad, we lived in a heavily wooded area on the shores of a lake. My Dad got a female squirrel tame enough that she would eat out of your hand, and would sometimes sit on your shoulder. She lived for several years, teasing our dogs and barking at you if you didn’t have any treats for her. Especially crackers with peanut butter on them. There’s nothing funnier than watching a squirrel eating peanut butter.
Bernice would make the perfect stereotypical office manager, standing at the front door at 7:59 AM waiting the those late by a couple of minutes to write them up. I loathe her kind.
Ok, another week of camping “fun”. Sorry, I lost track of the week and was also hopeful of moving the arc, oh well.A beautiful sunset, G&K did a good job capturing mountain sunsets but it also throws California out of where they’re at. Now the real question is where the best sunsets are. Colorado I love, Key West is nice, Okinawa beautiful, Mauna Kea impressive.
So, once again Bernice the control freak declares the trip over, gets in the car, and expects the others to obediently follow her, because SHE is the All-Wise, All Knowing Counselor. (snerk) I hope the others continue to ignore her as they have been. Oh, and Bernice? The “vicious animals” (double snerk) attacked your belongings, not you.
Note to Luann and Dez: If you get chased by a bear (or wolf or mountain lion or whatever) trip Bernice.
Fantastic sunset in the wild, beautifully drawn. That is an arc point, although I not sure if the arc is over just yet. Probably, but my predicton that Jack, Nil, and Tara show up still is out there. If they do poor Bernice will either go more goofy than she is already, or maybe relax and enjoy the moment. Not likely though. This does show how open Luann is to beauty and life in general without preconceptions. Bernice? Not so much.
Too bad The Realist is missing it! I hope this arc continues a bit longer. At least until dawn. Then they will either pack up and leave or Jack and Nil will show up on a borrowed vehicle or Jack’s repaired truck. I’d like to see them surviving the night.
Its a little known fact that rodents will run if you make weird facial expressions at them, especially if you appear to be demented. to bad for Luann, her face will now freeze like that.
I’m surprised that this was not the Sunday comic. That sunrise (set?) must have looked awfully bland where the papers print the weekly funnies in black and white.
Yes, what a beautiful sunset. But that means darkness. They haven’t even attempted a campsite yet. Hopefully the stew has a pop top, as I’m sure no one brought a can opener. And a flashlight with no bulb is useless, unless you are McGuyver. I’m afraid this arc will leave us hanging unresolved and jump back to mayhem at the Fuse with Tiffany and TJ.
Listen to yourselves! People this is a COMIC STRIP. Camping is just that – CAMPING. Put down the electronic devices, take off the watches, and enjoy just BEING THERE.
I hope this is not a signal that we are at the end of this arc. This crew has not even camped a full day. Hopefully, if it is, we can at least pick it back up at some later time.
Has "bored stupid’ Luann never seen a gorgeous sunset before?! Bernie the slug can eat her recordings. Luann and Dez will settle for canned beef stew, even if it isn’t directly from Ma Nature’s bounty….
I saw quite a few flattering comments today, but what I did was akin to a Rose Ruiz win. Greg did all the heavy lifting with the black and white illustration, I just added hues a little more creatively than usual to complement his work.
Cold stew? Does that mean that there are no matches to make a fire? And guessing that at least one will be sleeping in the car since we saw the sleeping bag blow off the top. I can see Dez sleeping with whatever might be crawling on the ground, but not Luann and Bernice. And what about when they need to go to the bathroom? Guessing they haven’t figured out that they’ll have to dig a hole and hope there is some toilet paper somewhere in the car….
It’s coming, people, it’s coming. We have seen tidbits of Bernice’s alter ego. She sees herself in dramatic makeup, wearing tight clothes, and leaning against a lamp post at night, lookin’ and waitin’ for some action.

Realist? As in reporting facts with a basis in reality?
The campers weren’t attacked; their food was.
And the squirrel squad isn’t vicious, it’s hungry.
