We use NoMoRobo, it detects that the call was dialed robotically (even if the robot trasfers the call when the phone is answered) and hangs up on the first ring. That, plus caller ID cuts out a lot.
Now if I could just figure out a way to get rid of the hate mail from Judicial Watch, and some “Law Enforcement ‘Benevolent’” groups I’d have it made.
We’ve only gotten ONE call from a political poll. When she learned we were both over 65, she thanked me, said she’d mark the records, and hung up. Apparently nobody wants to know how the biggest bloc of voters feel about things.
When you get a spam call listen for the number to press to get a live person. When the person answers say the following “unworking number [press the same number as before] you have reached an unworking number” repeat until you hear a click. The spam calls will get less.
Yes, please. There are too darned many of them and their messages are stepping all over each other. Screaming Mimi is the answer to all phone spammers and marketing pests.
The robocall industry has, in effect, stolen our phones from us. There need to be laws that treat it as theft, with the same penalties that are applied to any other thieves.
Sadly, political robot calls are exempt from being blocked. I, and many others, want to know why exactly that’s the case. Somehow, I don’t think that those political spammers would want to be spammed. I don’t care who calls, Republican or Democrat. At least we can throw any circulars in the recycling bin.
That got my vote. Oh, and just a piece of trivia – a Fox-40 Sonic whistle uses very little lung power and will be in the range of about 120 decibels. They cost about $6 to $7. The whistles are what a lot of professional referees use. Very loud and shrill (if you’ve been to a professional game you know what I mean). Just in case someone asks you what the loudest whistle is, now you know the answer. I would never, ever suggest leaving one by the phone though. You might forget where you placed it.
Actually, the “political” from both sides, aren’t nearly as bad as the credit card frauds, Medicare/social security fraudsters, and trying to sell warranty extensions, and yes, that student debt help I didn’t need 50 years ago, or now.

If I don’t recognize the number I don’t answer. If it’s a real call they can leave a message.

I actually love participating in these surveys, but often times the honest answers don’t mesh with their script.

I’d actually welcome a call from a poll (although they’d have to leave a message first), but I want the following changes:
- Don’t ask me if I’m a voter. Maybe I gave up voting because the usual suspects were so bad. (I haven’t, but I think a lot of people have).
- Don’t ask me what party I’m registered as. I might want to vote for someone from a different party.
- And don’t ask me who of 20 candidates I would vote for. Ask me to rank the candidates – all of them, of any or no party.
