I’m pondering Puck preening his pasta!

And we all know the Woman is an unquestionable authority on these matters. If she says it, it must be true! (And Elvis says that, so that’s two layers of authority right there.)

I shudder to think of the fate of dry macaroni if my mom’s Siamese twins got hold of it. Merry and Pippin love things that can be batted swiftly and loudly across the hard floor – we suspect they may have been footballers* in a previous life. It’d all be under the couch/back into the pantry/under the kitchen shelves in no time!

*rest-of-the-world football. Soccer, to Americans.

My daughter is almost at the age where she can start doing this and I know I’m going to ugly cry the first time she gives me one. Not sure yet if I’m going to frame it or wear it until it disintegrates.

I don’t think macaroni necklaces were a thing when a lot of us in the Orb here were toddlers. Perhaps Marco Polo hadn’t yet returned from his trip east.

SUNDAY FUN DAY Given all the joy that the incomparable Georgia Dunn provides us during the week, here is the spot to share some of our own sunshine and good news back to the community she created.

I have fond memories of my daughter gluing pasta onto paper plates, making macaroni necklaces, and I still have a clay fish she made. Now I have some pictures my great-granddaughter made for me on the fridge.

That is so sweet. I miss when our kids were that age.

I still have child-made bracelets in my jewelry box (aforementioned child is a senior in college). Sigh….

OT — more vintage technology musings…

I agree with Elvis about calculating the current market value of macaroni. I all depends on the store you go to, if it’s name brand or store brand, if it’s name brand which name brand is it, size of box or bag you’re buy, and which state or province you get it in. Oughta check next time I go to the supermarket to see if glutten free and wheat affect the price.

Puck’s excitement with his little tongue poked out is beyond adorable, but I’m still worrying about Goldie amidst all this lovely fun!

I love how proud the boys are of their new necklaces. And Burt, how dare you correct Elvis. While it’s true that the raw materials can be purchased at the grocers, the finished product is one of original craftsmanship. (That’s surely what Elvis meant to day ;) )

We used to do those with my Grandma all the time. She passed yesterday and is now at home with the Lord. Thank you everyone for all well wishes I’ve received over the past week.

Happy extra hour day! (For those of you subjected to daylight savings (silly) time.)

The Orb has kindly helped me with my Bartok, who is sorta diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. I’m working with a (very!) limited budget, and a decent vet who has some unfortunate, um…. “blind spots”? That might be descriptive.

Vet thought Bartok was balanced pretty well. When I noticed marked back leg weakness, Vet’s 2 concerns were 1) using the litter box and 2) pain. Good answers to those so he said “he’s just old”. I had to persistently bring up side effects of prednisolone (steroid) treatment, and when he finally addressed it he was “Well, maybe. But it’s the best balance.”

To summarize, vet seems to be in “hospice” mindframe, whereas I’m in “LIFE!” mindframe. Alternative and new options are not “his thing”. So, he works with my budget, another vet is $ and a cat specialist vet is $$. So I research.

Found a therapy, treating the intestinal biome, that’s got a LOT of potential. It’s KINDA a “poop transplant”, but there’s NO POOP involved for the patients! ;-)

There’s testing kits and capsules for 1 or 2 months. Test, get results, treat condition, retest. I’m a little nervous about the pill, but I’d sure get it in him somehow. I COULD go cheaper and just give him the pills, see what happens. But, more real info just seems better?

Anyone know anything about this? If I do this and it WORKS, I’ll probably be repeating it periodically. Of course, I’d also save his life. <3<3<3

Bartok responded BEAUTIFULLY when I got him on raw diet, even with the pred. So, maybe more care of his gut will do more good?

Right now, he’s got enough strength to get to some favorite high spots, and live pretty well still. But he sometimes falls when trying to was his face with his paw. His other front leg gives out. He’s SO VERY on the edge! I feel like I MUST make a difference NOW.

Thoughts? Experiences? Other knowledge? Anything I’m missing?

My mom surprised me one time with a piece of painted plaster of Paris with a paperclip stuck in the side. I don’t remember when I might have made it, and right now I don’t even when she brought it out of hiding. Part of what I do remember is that I recognized it immediately when I saw it. Even now, I remember exactly what it looked like. It’s always amazing what will trigger lost memories. Thanks to everyone, particularly Georgia, for helping dredge up a truly pleasant flashback. . .

Just an update on my hip. It’s not as bad as yesterday. I had trouble sleeping last night though, because my ankle on that same side was bothering me and I just could not get comfortable in bed. Once again, I won’t be up to sitting in my crappy chair to read most of today’s comments.

Haven’t read all the comments and have been missing a lot this week, so blanket support to all who need it and huzzahs for those who have things to celebrate.

OT: I very recently learned something and todays comic gives me a perfect excuse to share. Pasta that has been cooked and then cooled is better for you because it then becomes a resistant starch, which functions kind of like soluble fiber. … This includes improved insulin sensitivity, lower blood sugar levels, reduced appetite and various benefits for digestion. This is also true of potatoes and rice. In one source I read that this is increased further when then reheated.

Make sure you properly refrigerate your pasta and rice as you do this because the bacteria that can grow in them otherwise, Bacillus cereus, is seriously bad for you (can even cause liver failure and death) and makes pasta and rice high risk foods for food poisoning when not handled properly.

More about resistant starch here in a link in replies. Curious how many of you already knew this.

I do hope The Man didn’t suffer any permanent damage (pantry lung?) when working in the macaroni mine.♥
