Green beans are native to the Americas. They came looking for the recipe.

Not only are they not bringing the green bean casserole but they will rely on you for their very survival and then 50 years later they’re going to murder almost every man, woman and child of your Wampanoag tribe. But hey, enjoy the turkey while you can.

My d-in-l brings a mashed turnip dish to every family dinner. Absolutely no one likes it except her and my son, but no one has the nerve to tell her.

I’d go with New Orleans style corn pudding.

I hate the fake onion and mushroom soup recipe. However If I saute fresh green beans and mushrooms, add a Mornay (cheese) sauce and top it with REAL fried onions, it is heavenly. You can also run it under a broiler to brown the sauce right before serving for an extra flair.

I sometimes wonder if the bleeding hearts think the Indians would still be paddling around in birchbark canoes and hunting deer with stone arrowheads. Are they really so racist to think they never would have progressed out of the Stone Age?

What did those innocent green beans ever do to deserve such an end. I have yet to see a TG yet where 3/4 of that creamed bowl of slop didn’t end up in the garbage or the compost heap.

Why? Why do you keep forcing this abomination on us?

When I was a little kid in the fifties, we never had fresh or frozen vegetables, only canned. Green bean casserole (or hotdish, in my neck of the woods) was the only vehicle in which I found any vegetable at all palatable back then. I still welcome it as nostalgic comfort food at family gatherings. But of course fresh or frozen vegetables are preferable day-to-day now that they’re available.
