Funny thing about Buttercup – other than all the other funny things about him – his name never comes up in any conversation in our house. Certainly won’t tomorrow.
The rule about “no talking about religion or politics” is a cause of our current condition (in the US anyhow). Anyone who have been told this – and obeyed – has zero experience discussing these things. So we so not have the conversational, and in many cases, the intellectual skills to even enter the discussion, much less carry on while making any sense.
I won’t claim this is a major contributor, but it has had a real effect.
If whiny brats aren’t allowed either, this restaurant will be my favorite, too. My lunch dates with cousins, though, tends to be about their latest illness and their cats. Lots and lots of cats.
And the restaurant only serves pablum. The sugar free, no salt, lactose free, gluten free variety. And they wonder how they got there, can’t find their way home, but blame each other. And everyone gets stuck with the check. And no one gets anything to eat but everyone gets served.
I’ll gladly talk politics to someone who differs from me, as long as it is a respectful and civil conversation. I’ve only known a couple of people with whom I can do this.

What we need is a place where people do both. If people had more civil conversations about politics, things would get better

I’d love it if restaurants had “kid” and “non-kid” sections……

Mostly we just avoid it at family meetings. Life is too short to live with it 24/7.
