Years ago on eBay, I got a DVD of old Tom Terrific cartoons. This was one of the earliest made-for-TV cartoons where was and it aired every day on Captain Kangaroo. I quickly realized that the music for this cartoon was supplied by accordion and banjo.

There will now be a few minutes for the kids to go “Who were Tom Terrific and Captain Kangaroo?”

One of the best kid moments is when they figure out that what they like and want may not be what other people like and want. Good kids will want to buy you a present such as a toy truck or doll. When they buy you something they know you use, though, that’s a big step.

Reminds me of the old joke, ‘What do you get if you throw a bagpipe and an accordion from the roof of a ten-story building? Answer: who cares?’

These instruments aren’t inherently annoying when in the right hands and context. Violins and pianos can be annoying too. On that last one, I speak from personal and bountiful experience. It is true, however, that some instruments have a more narrow “proper context”: I would included saxophones along with already mentioned banjos.

Lived in Scotland for several years, I liked bagpipe music, but could never tell one piece from another. All sounded like a moose in pain.

Better venue for these guys would be the Gong Show.

Once took an islands schooner cruise. “Amazing Grace” was bagpiped upon leaving each port for open sea, and it was deeply touching each time. Also heard somewhat commonly at Irish funerals I have attended.

I’m so old I can remember having to wait till Saturday mornings to watch cartoons. Unfortunately later in the day Lawerence Welk came on at the same time as the 3 Stooges. Or was it the Bowery Boys? Could have been Spanky? My Father got first nabs on watching the toob so I didn’t get to see many of the classics. Trying to watch what passes for cartoons my grandkids watch is an exercise in futility. Another sad fact is there are at least 3 stations here that broadcast this kind of stuff 24-7.

I am suspicious of an instrument you have to inflate before you can use it.

I have heard “Happy Birthday” played on the pipes and other music too. I have to admit, it takes some getting used to, but I still like it better than some other forms of so-called music.

I could tell u w/e “annoying” music they are playing, it has to be HELLA better than most of today’s music!

With the right accompaniment, bagpipes sound great!

Sorry guy, but I for one, enjoy good bagpipe music – especially played on the Irish bagpipes. I also like banjos and accordions – Zydeco music comes to mind.

Any musical instrument in the hands of a talented musician is a treat to the ears … but played by an inept amateur is sheer torture!

I actually like bagpipes, but not with an accordion – nope.

If I had to offer a counter-argument to “No Accordions” it would be Kiko and the Lavender Moon

I watched Captain Kangaroo when he was just a Corporal.

I like bagpipes. Accordions, not so much, not counting Weird Al Yankovic’s music. My dorm during my undergraduate days was beside a small golf course, and I’d wake up early Saturday mornings to the sound of bagpipers practicing their marching on the golf course in the fog. Now, that was seriously creepy and weird.

Love well played bagpipes, hate bad played. (Yes there is good played bagpipes) Can tolerate well played accordion. Both are according to taste. Everyone I know either hates or loves bagpipes. I guess I love them because I have Scottish blood.

I like bagpipes but outdoors please, they are not an instrument for inside. Accordion in Zydeco, Tango is great, but I was never a fan of Lawrence Welk style.

Bagpipes can be REAL good. Witness CELTICA: Pipes Rock. They have 2 bagpipes, violin, electric guitars, mandolin, drums, and sometimes other instruments. Thankfully no banjoes or accordions.

Common, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers are awesome!Grew up with various great uncles and such that played the accordion. I liked it then and don’t mind listening to it now. There was a lot of accordion players that a Folk Festival I went to last spring, and it was great! In anyway, There was even a local 29 piece mandolin band, that I thought I was just going to have to sit through to get to the acts I thought I wanted to see more, but wow, they were awesome! My music tastes are pretty diverse, though I find Opera and Rap kinda bore me after awhile as many of the songs start sounding alike.

Concertina and pipes! Almost heaven.

Except neither accordion nor bagpipe music is annoying.

My neighbor (first name Duncan) used to play bagpipe recordings early Sunday morning until his 10 kids all got out of bed to get ready for church — loud enough to be heard throughout his house, and mine too in the summer.

It was good bagpipe music, but anything played at Sunday morning when you are trying to sleep will leave an annoying memory.

I love both the accordion and bagpipes.
