Oh, now there is some antic of Jon and Garfield of which Liz can approve? And to think she’s a spoil sport.

A race to see who gets the first brain freeze.

I could go for the ice cream. The brain freeze, not so much.

Hope you have enough ice cream.

Even though I am Insane… I do not like Nuts in my Ice Cream. My preference is fruit and chocolate. Marionberry Pie, Wild Mountain Blackberry, Mint Chip, Oregon Black Cherry, Root Beer Float, Mudslide, Udderly Chocolate… Excuse me… I need to take a sudden trip to the store! (Grin!)

Ate your ice cream too fast & got “brain freeze”? Guaranteed cure is to hold your tongue to the roof of your mouth, & it will go away fairly quick.

For the people who do not understand, I will explain the joke in this comic.

I assume you have an understanding of how the Garfield universe works, but for those who don’t. Garfield is about a man, and his cat. The man who is named Jon, has a bland life, and has a special inability to gain the affection of women. Jon is the protagonist in this universe. the cat who is Garfield, eats lasagna, sleeps all day, and is just plain lazy and mischievous, and he is the antagonist.

This comic takes place in a room with light green wall, and a grayish brown counter.

The first panel shows Jon, and Garfield with spoons, and bowls of ice cream.The next panel shows Jon, and Garfield catapulting the ice cream into their mouth.The next panel shows Jon, and Garfield having a brain freeze because they ate their ice cream too fast.The next panel shows Jon, and Garfield screaming, with their eyes bulging from their head.The next panel shows Liz proposing the question “What are you two doing now?”. Jon replies “Ice cream eating races!”.In the next panel Liz, Jon, and Garfield are shown standing in the room silent.The final panel shows Liz wanting to be entered in the ice cream eating race, says “Deal me in”. Garfield, happy with her decision thinks to himself “Atta girl”.

Whenever Jon’s wig falls off, his real head and hair are exposed.

Obviously the results of years of brain freeze. Brain freeze is a real phenomenon and it serves a real purpose. Basically the body is telling you the blood going to the brain is too cold and you need to warm it up otherwise you could cause brain damage. For Jon and Garfield it is already too late. It is a shame that Liz would join them in getting brain damage. On the other hand, it could explain her affection for Jon.

Waste of good food, sorry but….

Where was that diet? Is this a reward for garf for eating his veg?

Brain freeze

Sadly, many people will never get to experience ‘brain freeze’, because they lack the key ingredient to that malady.

It is a good thing that Jon does not have a brain to freeze.

When I was a small child, my siblings & I would have an interesting race with ice cream. We’d get a cone (it HAD to be a cone for the race; it also couldn’t be soft-serve) and we’d lick the ice cream until it was in the shape of a peak. We then had to raise our cone and sing out, “Statue of Ice Cream Cone!”

Me and my buddy, Patrick growing up called it “brain freeze” but that didn’t stop us from eating it.

I wish MY family had ice Cream races.

She’s going to show you boys how a master does it!

Just about every time we eat, my wife finishes first, except ice cream. Made banana splits for dinner (adulting) and she took her time.

I really don’t like Garfield, but I admit this particular strip is pretty funny

I don’t often find Garfield that funny – but I keep reading the strip for just these sorts of moments. The sixth panel with Liz just staring at them before the close – perfect.
