Yeah, thatâs breaking news alright. Luann made her bed and perhaps cleaned her room. But i see this is the usual sunday running gag: Luann and her ânational geographic specialâ that is her bedroom. haha
In the last panel, is Frank more startled by Luannâs news or is he more startled by the fact Nancy took her hand off his leg? If this is how his life is affected by Luannâs made bed, then he might prefer a messy Luann.
Targeted news gathering links those interested in this fantastic news WITH this fantastic news! Everybody is happier thereby!!!!!!
âŠunless they only want bad news or depressing news. In that case, the feedback loop convinces them nothing good ever happens. And depending on their personal preference, they each get more and more bothered about completely different things.
Personally I like how Frank and Nancy are sitting there so comfortably, and almost erotically together. I know the gag has to do with Luann actually making her bed without being urged to, but to me the obvious love and attraction that the babe Nancy has to her man/husband Frank, and his luck in having her is the story. Brad is lucky like that too, and I hope Gunther and Bets stay together, she is very affectionate. Now how about Luann or Bernice?
A teenager or young adult making her bed being deemed ânewsworthyâ by her parents is a really lame old joke. Talk about low hanging fruit in the humor department.
The real point is that if she made her bed she is apparently taking stuff to be washed. Why would she make her bed and carry things away? When I make my bed i leave the blankets etc on it.
Some kids think they deserve a gold star for doing basic chores. Did Luann actually take off the used sheets and put clean ones on? Or did she just pull the covers up to the top of the bed? When I make the bed I just pull the sheets and bedspread up to cover the pillows. Changing and washing bedding is a lot more work.
Now wait: Luann and Bernice have been lolling around on or beside that bed for years, and when they do, itâs always been made. So how is it big news that Luann has made the bed this time? Or maybe Iâm misremembering past strips. . .
So, Greg: Pru, who was likely an unwanted crack baby, bounced around from one foster home to another, lives the lesbian lifestyle, and somehow magically became the model citizen whom we should all admire and emulate. How did that happen? Frank and Nancy have poured their life into raising Luann in a stable, two-parent home with good morals, and every Sunday we see that they have failed. So if we want our kids to be like Pru, should we dump them off on the foster care system? Or should we realize that Pru is a fantasy, while Luann is real? Would it cost you your gig if you portrayed a lesbian with the real problems that real lesbians and homosexuals actually struggle with?
Displaying disdain for someone because of a physical disability, a religious background, an ethnic heritage or a sexual orientation is a character failing. Believing that you can âhelp yourselfâ to someone elseâs money or possessions is a character failing. All of these are actions that hurt someone else.
In comparison, living in a messy room or not making a bed everyday, which doesnât really hurt anyone other than the person trying to find something in that room, doesnât seem as much of a flaw. Except, of course, when the character with that so-called âflawâ is Luann.
I am certain that if Luann discovered cures for cancer and COVID-19, the Luannhaters here would find fault with that.
@Caldonia: I have been reading âZitsâ much longer than Iâve been reading âLuannâ. The main character in âZitsâ is a teen (male), Jeremy, living with his parents, and his room is constantly a mess. Complete with plates of food shoved under the bed, piles of dirty clothes, etc.
His parents are constantly trying to get him to clean his room (or alternately his mother, Connie, gets unhappy enough to clean it herself). His parents also try to get him to (a) do laundry (he ends up destroying the machine by stuffing too much into it), and (b) empty the garbage as his other âchoreâ.
I have yet to see the posters on âZitsâ display the degree of âdisgust, disdain or whateverâ toward Jeremy that is displayed routinely toward Luann. In fact, lots of posters get annoyed at Connie for ânaggingâ Jeremy. I also never see anyone yarp about how âboringâ Jeremy is.
Conclusions? Either a massive double standard is at work, or lots of hate for Luann.
Looking at this comic again this evening I think Luann isnât just referring to making her bed, i.e. tidying the sheets and blankets but changing the linen which she is now taking to the washing machine. In a house with three other people that actually might be worth mentioning to explain that the washer is going to be in use for a while.

Luann made up her bed! Wonder of Wonders!
Either Bernice living with DeGroots is quickly paying âdividendsâ or Luann has a gentleman caller coming to visit.
And whatâs with the âpastel coloring?â ;)

Classic! And Luannâs doing some laundry. Definitely breaking news but probably not On Air worthy.
