I’m glad he’s retiring and not going to the pen. I’ve enjoyed Shoe for a long time, and was pleasantly surprised that the last transition was seamless.
Thank you, Gary, for sharing your talent and insight with us. You made my world a happier place.
Stone Soup, Pluggers, Shoe, a lot of talent moving on. The nice thing about retirement that I have found is that if its not fun, you don’t have to do it!!!
In that same post Gary also said he was passing Shoe on to Ben Lansing:
Ben Lansing, a talented cartoonist, illustrator, web designer (and Richmonder) will continue art production on “Shoe.” Ben has actually been working with us on the strip for five years, initially doing color, but a couple years ago he began producing most of the daily strips, and I did the Sundays. He’s now doing most of the Sunday strips, as well, and he’ll also take over completely in August.
I am happy to see there is a line of succession in place for Shoe. I would not want to miss the Senator from East Virginia’s antics during the campaign season.
Sorry to see you leaving Gary. I’ve only been following for a few years but it is a great comic. Happy trails. Maybe you’ll run across Jan Elliot of Stone Soup or Norm Feuti of Retail in your retirement.

So another one is pulling the plug. Hopefully it is not for health related reasons. For age, or desire to do something else are acceptable, however.

I doubt these comics are “going away” it is just a retirement of one the team. I’m sure the team can handle it.
