He can’t be “your” politician unless he’s elected. Which clearly implies that being elected is the only thing that really matters. It is kind of refreshing to hear the truth from a politician though.
Here’s an idea. Once a person is elected, they never have to run for re-election. They DO, however, have to face the voters at the end of their term and (assuming they want another term), get 50+% of them to vote for him to have another term. Nobody to run against, no campaigning, no ads, no campaign contributions or fundraising — just their record and whether we like it or not. If more than 50% vote YES, then they stay. If more than 50% vote NO, then they are out at the end of the term, and an actual election is held (the incumbent would be ineligible to run).
Will there be a large drop in political comments a short time after the elections? Also there should be a 28th amendment, that no politician can use Twitter, Facebook, etc.
I’d like to donate to the McWeasely Committee for the Re-Election Of McWeasely SuperPAC. I, also, would like a permit to demolish the local orphanage and put up condos. We cool?
If we could overthrow citizens united, that would help take big money out of politics. Citizens united says that corporations are people. It tilted the playing field. That’s how big money became so influential in our elections and how our elected officials became more concerned about reelection rather than doing the job they were elected to do.
Is the preference for a politician who will vote to make us do what he thinks is best for us, rather than not prevent us from doing what we think is best for us?
I’m sure I don’t have to repeat my comment from yesterday about term limits unless it is to say that these career politicians get re-elected not because they are serving the public, but because the public is lazy.
I used to never believe in term limits. I always felt that the ballot box was the term limiter. Ah, the naivety of my youth as its painfully obvious that the system is pretty much rigged for the incumbents.
It is painful to see so much cynicism here. It is as though nobody watched Adam Schiff’s daily summations at the impeachment hearings. I recommend viewing them, if you can. “They” are NOT “all the same”.
The first person who came to mind for me was Shelia Jackson Lee. Her constituents consistently drink the Kool Aid and vote for her time after time, because she has managed to convince them that she actually cares about them.

Don’t be too hard on him. ALL parties have a “get in line” policy for voting in the House of Commons, so as to retain power.
