If it were two dogs, maybe. Given that there’s a cat in the equation, your assumption is correct, Your Honor.

How do you know you’re mad? “To begin with, a dog’s not mad—you grant that.” I suppose so. “Well, a dog growls when he’s angry and wags his tail when he’s pleased. I growl when I’m pleased, and wag my tail when I’m angry. Therefore, I’m mad.” I call it purring, not growling. “Call it what you like. Do you play croquet…?”

You’d have to be barking mad to try to litigate this.

Nope. Anarchy still rules in the pet kingdom. Dominance for the hearts and minds of people will ever be a struggle, particularly from the creatures we love who could just be on the menu some day. Dark, I know. But times can become tough in a heart beat.

Whatever differences animals may have with each other, at least cats don’t give a rip whether they’re tabbies or calicos, and dogs don’t care whether they’re black Labs or yellow ones, Mexican chihuahuas or German shepherds or Australian terriers. To attach that much significance to superficialities, you need human beings.

Literal cats and dogs can co-exist in peace. Metaphorical cats and dogs can not. Clearly Wiley has drawn metaphorical cats and dogs here. The distinction is clear to the judge.

Over many years, all my dogs, cats, and even my horse got along and worked as a unit. Number one priority: protect the two small kids who adored them. Number two: protect each other. The dog and cat always being enemies is total nonsense. If the human makes it known that the cat and dog are part of the family/pack unit, they will bond in most cases. If the human tells the dog that cats aren’t prey, the dangerous nonsense will usually stop.

I lived in a household with three cats and one dog. The cats would give him grief, if he so much as looked at one of them while indoors. It was odd as he moved around the house, not-looking at the obvious cats.

Oh, I don’t know, I think the cat and the dog could get along nicely;the opposing counsels, on the other hand … (assuming they are the opposing counsels, and not the ones needing to mediate).
